Yes, yes I utterly adore Make Up Forever Full Coverage Concealer but it is far from easy to source here in the UK and lets be honest marked up beyond belief. With that in mind I felt it was only fair that I gathered up all my favourite concealers that are easy to find within Britain and don't cost the earth either! Okay a few sneaky higher end purchases have crept into the hit list but I feel that is levelled out by the abundance of budget friendly options...
Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer £4.19 via Boots
When it comes to budget buys the concealer that tops many a list is of course Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer. A cheap and cheerful concealer that is as high coverage as they come, it is creamy, easy to blend out and covers just about any pesky skin problem you may have. I personally don't rate this for the under eye area as in my experience it does settle into any fine lines but I do know others who swear by it for that very reason. I like to use it to cover the most problematic of blemishes but a word of warning to those with oily skin this does oxidise (gradually becomes deeper throughout the course of wear) so you may want to purchase a shade lighter.
Seventeen Phwoarr Paint £5.49 via Boots
So you have had a sleepless night and have the bags and dark circles to show for it, what do you need? The mother of all concealers to hide last nights restless night, enter Seventeen Phwoarr Paint. I will hold my hands up in saying I am not the biggest fan of this concealer as it is so thick and difficult to blend out but there is no denying there is no dark circle it can not hide. It is one of those concealers you are utterly aware that you are wearing but if you are hung over and/or sleep exhausted that really is the least of your worries. A word to the wise, you will want to set this concealer with a powder as it has a tendency to crease. Summed up a heavy duty cover all signs of darkness concealer and said to be the ultimate dupe for Benefit Boi-ing concealer. Now you know.
Bourjois Happy Light Concealer £8.99 via Boots
If you like the idea of the Seventeen Phwoarr Paint but wish for something slightly more creamier and lighter in texture this is the concealer for you. Now this concealer does a stellar job of hiding any dark circles and contains micro pigments to actually brighten and lighten the under eye area so you essentially have a two in one. The creamy texture makes this a dream to not only apply but blend out, it is far more comfortable to wear and less prone to creasing.
NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer £21 via Look Fantastic
Probably the best £20 or so I have spent on a concealer, I adore this light weight and utterly creamy soft formulation. The doe foot applicator makes this a dream to apply to the under eye area, it quickly eradicates any problems be it darkness or dullness and stays in place all day long without creasing. I also on occasion use this to mask blemishes as the moisturising texture means it doesn't cling to any dry areas. It builds beautifully and the colour range is wonderful.Yes this is one of the more pricey concealers on this list but a little goes a long, long way. If you are looking for a dupe...
Maybelline Fit Me Concealer £5.99 via Boots
Very similar to the above NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer only no where near as "creamy", it also doesn't have quite as much coverage and the colour range is of course far more limited. I also find that the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer is a little prone to creasing around the eye area but for covering blemishes it is a good call!
MAC Pro Long Wear Concealer £17 via House of Fraser
For the longest while this was my holy grail concealer and to this day I still swear by it. If you need an under eye concealer that will cover any degree of dark circles or simply want to perk up such area this is the one. No concealer I own stays in place quite like it, I can rely on this to stay looking fresh all day long and know that it won't crease or oxidise on my oily skin. If I have a long day on the cards this is the concealer I dig out. It also does a stellar job of disguising any redness or pesky blemishes. If you are on a budget or simply don't like MAC for whatever reason my next choice is for you...
Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Concealer £5.99 via Boots
As close a dupe to MAC Pro Long Wear Concealer I have found along the way, they both share the same light weight yet high coverage texture and wear exceptionally well. The only real differences (price aside) is that the MAC version comes in far more shades, doesn't oxidise and has a longer wear time. I have the lightest shade of Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Concealer as my oily skin does mean that it on occasion it can become a little deeper in shade throughout the course of wear. Oddly this only happens sometimes yet I am guaranteed this will happen should I wear Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer. Most odd.
I hope the above line up is somewhat useful but if you have any other easy to source within the UK concealers do feel free to share. I am always open to suggestions and of course new product recommendations.

I saw the new version of Collection lasting perfection concealer in Boots website with a different shade range which I appreciate a lot. Just wondering did they change the formula too, that would be awesome. I really want to like it, though the old version disappointed me.
ReplyDeleteGoing to try out that phwoar paint and if not go for the MAC one. I normally use MAC Mineralize but the coverage is way too light for my circles and spots. x

I really really need to get my hands on the Nars concealer. The point that makes me want it even more is the fact it doesn't cling to those dry patches. I have the worst skin ha!

Such a useful post! I have awful dark circles and am always on the hunt for something that will cover it. Collection Lasting Perfection concealer is my go to at the moment but it doesn't quite cut it for under my eyes (although it is the best I've used so far) - will probably pick up one of the other ones you recommend when my tube runs out! xx

I adore the NARS radiant creamy concealer however I find it doesn't do so well at covering up cystic acne scars near my jaw line D: I guess they're still too pigmented. THe search for the HG concealer continues!

Ok, I am definitely going to NARS this week to pick up that concealer!

ReplyDeleteThe MAC Pro Longwear concealer was my go-to concealer for a looong time! Then I switched over to Vichy Dermablend, and now I'm using a concealer from Smashbox.
ReplyDeleteBig fan of NARS Radiant Creamy, but I'm quite keen to try the MAC one 'cause it gets such great reviews (and it's £4 cheaper!).

Tried and agreed with everything, apart from the Bourjois Happy Light. I would say the Laura Mercier secret camouflage is easy enough to source (space nk, fenwicks, selfridges nationwide and plenty of sites) and it definitely is worth a mention, I could probably live on just that alone now. And also the Maybelline The Eraser Eye, for affordable option, amazing coverage and application. :) xxxx
ReplyDeleteNice post. I've been struggling to find a GOOD undereye concealer. Tried the Maybelline Fit Me and i too found it didnt give much coverage. Might try the Bourjois Happy Light, i like how you made it sound. :) Mostly that it covers dark circles under eyes and blends easy. Winner :)
