French Week at Lidl

Hands up who is a little obsessed (okay a lot) with the Great British Bake Off? Yup me too! It has actually inspired me to bake a little more and frankly indulge my sweet tooth that little more. I would deem myself to be a cake person but I do have a fondness for French patisserie offerings too. The fresher the better.

French Week at Lidl

My local supermarket happen's to be a Lidl and this week they are celebrating French Week with a whole range of French products which have been sourced where possible from France. It is as close to eating in Paris without shelling out for flights and lets face it, eating with French delicacies in the comfort of your own home with good company is far more appealing than travelling.

What I love about Lidl is that most stores have an in-store bakery which frankly smells delicious, with the sweet aroma of hot croissants and various French breads baking in store. If that doesn't make you feel hungry nothing will!

To tie in with French Week I roped my sister into baking a few sweet treats using Lidl's Gateaux cake mixes (nothing like having a trainee Chef to help out is there?). We tweaked the Gateux mixes to turn them into brownies and cupcakes rather than large cakes which really only involved swapping cake tins for cupcake cases and a brownie pan! At £1.49 a mix it does make a great rainy day treat and activity - I call it emergency cake. Every home needs cake!
