Who doesn't love a bargain? More importantly who doesn't love a make-up bargain?
Well if you enjoy warm neautral, shimmer based eyeshadows I have just the thing for you in the form of the Maybelline Big Eyes Light Catching Palette in Luminous Brown.
I don't want to bog you down too much with notes on the packaging so I'll be snappy! It is plastic and a little flimsy so I do worry that the soft powder eyeshadows could shatter when travelling etc. The weird swirl/abstract pattern of the four eyesahdows does mean you have less of certain shades and more of others. It seems to be that Maybelline have assumed that we will use less of the chocolate brown shadow in comparison to the rusty almost orange hue. Make of that what you will.
As mentioned above Maybelline Big Eyes Light Catching Palette in Luminous Brown contains four shimmer almost metallic based eyeshadows, none of which have shade names. Starting from the left we have a mid toned, slight golden based chocolate brown which reminds me a little of MAC Mulch eyeshadow. Next we have a light, shimmery and slightly icy rose gold shade, then a bright, yellow based rusty orange and lastly a great MAC Nylon dupe in the centre (bright, ivory with a gold undertone). The shade selection is great and if you have blue eyes this is a palette you need in your stash asap.
Other than Maybelline's Color Tattoo Eyeshadows I haven't always been the biggest fan of the brands formulations, normally they are weakly pigmented and chalky...well in my opinion anyway. I am happy to report that the Maybelline Big Eyes Light Catching Palette in Luminous Brown shadows are well pigmented and almost buttery to the touch. They do have a slight tendency to crumble and produce a substantial level of product fall out due to the soft texture. On the plus side they do blend out beautifully and have an almost gel like texture meaning they cling to the lids for prolonged wear time. In my experience (with a primer) I was able to achieve just shy of 8 hours of wear which is above average for my oily lids. The "big eyes" gimmick? It is just that, the shadows will not make your eyes appear any bigger or more open but I think deep down we all knew that.
All in a great little neutral palette that gets the thumbs up from me.

These shades are just my thing and I think I'll have to by it when there's next a 3 for 2 on in Boots. The shades are very similar to some of those in one of the MUA palettes actually!

I definitely think, with my colouring, I'd use all the colours but the orange the most, so it's a little disappointing they'd make that the biggest palette (though more than likely strategic). That darker brown shade looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! I'll definitely be picking this one up!
