On the UK high street the original Maybelline Baby Skin Primer is easily the best of its type.
It gently fills in enlarged pores, fine lines as well as creating a silky, soft canvas for applying foundation on top of, not to mention it also helps to prolong make-up wear. For £7.99 you can't beat it and I would recommend it over the likes of Benefit The Porefessional any day. So why can't I get on board with Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur in Cool Rose?
Well first of all this is a different primer all together, it isn't as silicone laden as the original. which I realise for certain skin types this will be nothing but beneficial but my enlarge pore riddled skin needs a little filler baby! The texture is completely different, Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur in Cool Rose is more liquid based (it is really thin in texture and prone to oozing out the tube's spout) and feels more like a lotion opposed to the thicker, creamy consistency of the original. The texture I can deal with, in-fact I rather like that it is cooling, easily absorbed and a little goes a long way but the fragrance is so over the top within this version that I worry it will cause sensitive skins to react. It really is strong and doesn't fade all that quickly either. Again this is something I could come to grips with it Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur in Cool Rose actually delivered what it claimed - even skin tone, a fresh complexion that is perked up and an even skin texture.
Nope, not even close. This pink toned liquid in theory should colour correct - brightening dull skin and adding radiance as it goes. Nope! Sorry Maybelline this does nothing of the sort, no even skin tone, no brightening of the skin and my pores etc are just as obvious as they were before application. All Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur in Cool Rose really does is turn the skin matte which lets face it is hardly ground breaking. Save yourself the £7.99 and skip this version, I will pick up the other shade (Apricot) and let you know how it fairs but so far it really is a case of the original is the best.

It's such a shame that you don't like it. I got the apricot one & do think it brightens/makes my skin look more awake. I have been using both baby skin primers together & I think it makes my skin look amazing (: xx
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, this is why I prefer natural/organic body creams/lotion than synthetic. I hardly buy synthetic products anymore. They tend to make me break.

Thanks for this post, will know not to buy it now :) Anyways these products come out really late in Dubai and it's better to invest in a better quality one.

Great honest review, I think I will stick to my No7 primer. Its perfect for my oily skin and does a fantastic job of keeping my makeup in place

I expected these Maybelline primer very much because of the cute packaging, but it seems like it disappointed most of the people :(.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad i read this post. I was looking at this in boots yesterday and debating buying it but held off to justify my repurchase of benefit porefessional. I wasnt to keen on the orginal baby skin either but i think i may have been using too much causing the product to slip off my face.
ReplyDeleteBut we cant deny that maybelline 'baby' products have sweet packaging?
great post!

I really want to try this, having fallen out of love with porefession - for the minimal help it gives me its way overpriced! After reading this i'll probably just try the original.
ReplyDeleteI really wan to try this! Hopefully its available in the US soon!

That's such a shame you don't like it, I was so excited to try this but now I'm wary! I'm worried it'll react with my sensitive skin, I may try it we'll see!

I've just reviewed a primer from Wilko which I ASSUMED this new Baby Skin one would look like formula wise?! http://www.helloterrilowe.com/2014/08/the-best-primer-ive-ever-tried.html - it's a slight pink tone and the formula feels like a softer version of when you apply the original baby skin, I didn't think the Baby Skin would be as runny as it looks either and be more a gel like that one!
ReplyDeleteglad i read this i was wanting to purchase it x

i feel like the only person who isn't keen on the original either :( it's nice, smooth and minimised the appearance of pores but it broke me out! x
ReplyDeleteI saw these when I was shopping and I am glad I gave them a miss, it's a shame though. Then again I barely use the original one ha.
ReplyDeleteAh no that's rubbish! I had high hopes for these, I get the impression they are trying to imitate the Clinique primers? I do love the original Baby Skin though, will stick to that one I think!

Such a shame, I didn't like the original Baby skin but was hoping this one would be good. I might give it a miss now! xx

The original baby skin did nothing for me, and it sounds like I should give this one a miss too!
