As most will agree Kylie Jenner somewhat kick started the current trend of tapping into deeper nude matte lipstick which were apparently bang on trend back in the 90's. Yeah I did just take my mum's word for it, I had far more pressing issues back in the 90's i.e arguing over who got to play Baby Spice in our Spice Girl tribute act. Don't judge I know you were also part of one too! Anyway as a fan of natural toned lipsticks and matte formulas I am just your gal to share a good few similar deep nudes all of which won't break the bank...
MAC Whirl Lipliner £12.50 (find it here - link)
This is the shade that Kylie Jenner has openly admitted is her nude lipstick of course, as she favours overdrawing her lips (I think?) then I can see why. It is a somewhat natural yet deep pink toned nude and as it is in pencil form you can easily over exaggerate your lips natural shape should you wish. I find this shade easier to wear when I am tanned but I do think as it is neutral in tone it should suit most complexions. Out of all the liners I am sharing today this has the best formulation - it isn't as drying or sticky in texture and most akin to a typical matte lipstick.
Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Eastend Snob £3.99 (find it here - link)
This is my go to nude lip liner, I wear it all the time. It is a fairly deep nude pink that is completely matte and does give a slight 90's vibe. It may not be an outright dupe for the likes of MAC Whirl but it suits my colouring much better. I do tend to pair this with MAC Angel Lipstick but equally like to wear it alone for a fuller, yet totally matte nude pink lip. Although not a drying texture I do find this to be slightly tacky and dare I say it sticky in finish but that does subside after a few minutes of wear.
17 Lip Liner in Rose Blush (find it in Boots)
I can not fault the colour, it is almost identical to MAC Whirl but the formulation isn't the best. Being a liner and a fairly cheap one at that this is very drying and prone to tugging on the lips. Even warming this before application doesn't really do much good. Great shade, poor texture. All is not lost it does seem to apply really well over a balm but of course that cancels out the matte finish.
Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist £8.99 (find it here - link)
Much like Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Eastend Snob is my go to liner this is my go to deep nude lipstick of choice. Again this is slightly pink toned but have a strong brown undertone, pushed I would say it is neutral and should suit most. Colour aside I do have a few application tips: use a lip scrub the night before wear (obviously this is only going to help if you know in advance you will be wearing said shade), apply lip balm around half an hour before wear and remove any excess before applying the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet, apply in thin layers and allow to dry completely before touching or applying any other lip product. The Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets are a little prone to sinking into dry areas of the lips and can flake if not allowed to dry fully. It is worth the extra effort as once they set they do not budge and offer full pigmentation all day long.
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina £15 (find it here - link)
If you like the idea of a matte, liquid lipstick but don't quite have the time or willingness to put in the above work - Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina is for you. A really similar tone to Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Nude-ist, I'd say Patina is slightly cooler and lighter but on my lips they pretty much look identical. They both give a long wearing, truly matte finish but the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick is far easier to apply. No scrubbing, no balm, simply apply in a light and even layer, leave to dry and tah-dah the perfect pout is yours. Premium does come at a price as you can see Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina is nearly double the price of the Bourjois version.
And so you can see all the shades beside each other to make comparisons and what not (they are in order of appearance in case the font on the photo is illegible)...
Do you have any matte nude you would add to this list?
As a side note yes I do enjoy my lip pencils blunt.
I love the Nude-ist shade on me but it's more a mid tone pink rather than a nude. For a true nude, my hand tends to gravitate towards MAC Viva Glam V.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for a nude pink shade for a while so this post was extremely helpful!

The MAC lip pencil in whirl is probably a shade that I tend to neglect while i am more drawn to the nice pretty pinks. However, I do want to try sport a matte deeper pink colour as I do find Kylie's makeup to be so sophisticated looking.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your picks~ definitley makes me want to go out and purchase a few.
Have a lovely day ♥

The one and only matte nude that I found which suits me (so far) is MAC Kinda Sexy, but it's way more peachy than the colours you've shown here!
ReplyDeleteLike the mac lip liner so will hunt down next time I'm near a mac concession, are you sure boots seventeen still do lip liners I thought they discontinued them earlier this year?
ReplyDeleteI really love the Rimmel lip liner and I totally understand what you mean by the tacky feeling! I've been on the hunt for nudeist but it's literally sold out everywhere! Whirl has also been on my radar but when I swatched it it was very, very brown. If you can't tell I'm totally coveting the Kylie look!
