Maybelline Big Eyes Eye Liner in 02

I was so, so excited when I saw the new Maybelline Big Eyes Eye Liner's in Boots, so much so that I didn't even look at the price (£4.99 each F.Y.I) and placed one instantly into my basket. You see Maybelline Big Eyes Mascara is one of my favourite budget friendly mascara's that I pretty much assumed that this dual ended pencil would blow me away. Wrong!

Before I state why I am not sold on the Maybelline Big Eyes Eye Liner let me say that I do find the whole concept very clever. The idea is that you have two shades of pencil liner one for the top water line and one for the bottom, when used together they can help to give the impression of wider, more awake eyes as well as longer eyelashes. The Maybelline Big Eyes Eye Liner comes in two colour ways 01 Black and White and 02 Black and Nude. I believe the general concept is that you tight line your upper lash line with the black shade and use the lighter shade on the lower water line, the nude or white shade depending on which liner you purchase makes your eyes appear larger and neutralises any redness on the lower water liner. The black shade when used on the upper water line can make lashes appear longer. It is a great optical illusion.

Like I said a very clever idea and a pencil that could easily wangle its way into any daily beauty routine had the formula not let it down. You see the Maybelline Big Eyes Eye Liner is very, very firm and waxy in consistency which does result in it pulling and tugging on the eye. I also found that if you do not warm this pencil up before application the colour pay off in basically non-existent. On the plus side if you do preserver and warm either end of the pencil the waxy texture does work to your advantage as it seems to cling on to the water line and wears rather well. Sadly for me the nude end of this chubby liner irritated my eyes when used on the water line but I do find the thick texture to make a great eyeshadow base, it really grips on to powder eyeshadow and doesn't crease. I guess silver linings and all that. If you are looking for great all round, soft eyeliners that are well pigmented and a breeze to use then I recommend the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeliner which comes in both nude and black. It is easily found in Boots and Superdrug and gets my vote over this formula any day (you can find the Rimmel Scandal Eyes Eyeliner here -link).
