At first I wasn't all that keen on Revlon's Colorstay Shadowlinks - don't get me wrong I thought the concept was great, individual eyesahdows that can be linked together to create custom palettes of your size and choosing. Very clever indeed but the shade choice in the Boots I initially spotted the system wasn't all that great and out of say 10 shades I liked one. Yes I am very picky. Fast forward a day or so later and I found myself in a much larger Boots with a greater shade selection and without any fuss I added four shades to my basket. Boots 3 for 2 you get me every time...
Admittedly the packaging is the main selling point of the Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks. Each pan of colour comes within a small black and transparent plastic casing which although small in size seems to be fairly robust and you can easily see the shade inside each compact which is always handy. The idea behind the Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks is that each shade can be purchased individually and of course used in such way or linked on to other Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks to create a custom palette. I think it is a great idea as you have full control over the colours within your palette and it means you can travel with as many or as little shades as you like without having to depot or take several palettes.
As I said the Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks didn't offer up too many shades that caught my eye but in the end I purchased: Bone - a matte ivory hue, Taupe - a light medley of lilac, green and brown in one shade that is not all that dissimilar to MAC Satin Taupe, Cocoa - a deep cool toned brown and lastly Melon - a warm orange based pink that is almost coral. Basically to complete my palette all I need is a matte light brown that can be used as a transitional shade or to add a little depth to the eye socket, so far I haven't noticed such shade within the Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks but I'm hoping that the USA market will have more shades when I visit. As a side note I'm pretty sure within the UK the entire line of this particular eyeshadow contains 20 shades.
Much like all eyeshadows not all Revlon Colorstay Shadowlinks are equal nor are they the same formulation. I have one matte shade which is called Bone, it is not as pigmented as I would have liked but on the plus side it has a beautiful soft texture, isn't stark and makes a great subtle highlight. The other three shades are all satin yet two are more metallic in finish if you ask me. Both Melon and Taupe have a high sheen finish, again aren't the best pigmented eyeshadows I own nor are they the worst. They do glide easily enough on to the skin and blend well and if teamed with a primer you not only gain prolonged wear but also a little more colour intensity. Lastly we have Cocoa which is again a satin shade but almost matte in finish, this shade is by far the most pigmented of the bunch and could double up an eyeliner if wanted. For £2.99 a shadow I can't say I have any real complaints - sure they could be a little more pigmented but for a soft wash over your eyelids they are perfect.
