Hand on heart I am not the biggest Disney fan, like most I grew up on Disney cartoons (Sword in the Stone is my all time favourite) but grew out of the phase fairly young. Don't get me wrong I love Disneyland but a wannabe Disney Princess I am not. In fact more often than not I root for the bad guy or gal in such animated tales which of course means the MAC Maleficent Collection is right up my street. Could there be a more perfect Maleficent than Angelina Jolie? I think not.
The MAC Maleficent Collection is fairly compact in size, I had hoped that it would be somewhat similar to MAC's Disney Villains collection of 2010 with a few blushes and lipstick options. However it seems the collection is based on what Angelina Jolie wears in the movie which makes complete sense. Speaking of lipstick if you like a good red lip shade then you will want MAC Maleficent True Love's Kiss Lipstick. A slightly brown tinged red that gives this shade a more muted approach - perfect for those who are cautious of utterly bright reds. It is very much the lipstick version of the deep red roses in my images and as it runs fairly neutral it will suit most. MAC True Love's Kiss is an amplified formula meaning it packs a punch when it comes to the pigmentation stakes, glides on easily thanks to the creamy texture and should wear for at least three hours. At the moment I can not find this online but it should eventually creep onto the Debenhams and House of Fraser sites and in MAC stand alone stores.
Isn't it odd how the product you have the least expectations for is the one you end up loving the most? Sods law! Initially I thought the MAC Maleficent Eyeshadow Quad would be too deep for my personal preferences and yet I love it. Four perfectly coordinated shades that can be used for a muted everyday look or amped up for full on evening glamour. Yes the MAC Maleficent Quad features four permanent shades but at £33 it does work out better value for money than purchasing the eyeshadows and palette individually. The palette contains the following shades: Goldmine (frost) - a bright yellow gold that is intensely pigmented and has an almost metallic finish, Ground Brown (matte) - a deep, almost purple toned matte brown. Concrete (satin) - an almost matte cool toned, grey tinged medium brown - a good brunette brown shade! Lastly we have Carbon (matte) - a true intense matte black hue. Do you want killer cheekbones a la Angie (we are on first name terms, me and Brad go way back!)? Of course you do, that is why if you have a light to medium complexion you should snap up MAC's Maleficent Sculpting Powder in Sculpt. A light, somewhat ashen grey toned matte tinted powder that creates the perfect natural shadow that so many bronzers can not achieve. The end result is cheekbones that a supermodel would kill for. In my opinion MAC sculpt is a little lighter and more grey toned than NARS Laguna Bronzer, so if you found that or Benefit Hoola a little too deep to contour with then you should try and track this down be it in the limited edition packaging or as a regular MAC refill which you can find here - link. Lastly we have MAC Maleficent Beauty Powder in Natural which is one of those things along with MAC's MSF's that I fall over myself to pick up should they be launched within a collection. The best way to describe MAC Beauty Powders is basically a soft focus highlighting powder, they are never all that pigmented nor are they jam packed with shimmer particles. I guess they brighten the skin more than they highlight and for that reason you can use in the same way you would a pressed powder. I would say MAC Maleficent Beauty Powder in Natural is suited to most light to medium complexions as an all over pressed powder but deeper skin tones may want to use it as gentle highlighter or even an eyeshadow. So what do we think of MAC's Maleficent Collection? Has it left you wanting more or do you like the somewhat muted products? Personally I found it to be a grower, I know I'll get a lot of use out of the products but do wish the line was more expansive and that the packaging was a little more special. I have read that Disney's Cinderella is due to become a motion picture next year so maybe another MAC collection is in the works?
