L'Oreal Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover

I had high hopes for L'Oreal's Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover as the cleansing water from the same line has received nothing but rave reviews. Sadly L'Oreal Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover will not be replacing my beloved Garnier Express 2-in-1 Eye Make-Up Remover and here is why...

When it comes to eye make-up removers I do tend to favour oil based formulations and for years used Lancome's Bi-Facil Eye Make-Up Remover until the UK high street caught up and offered a similar formula for a more purse friendly price (enter Garnier et al). The reason I prefer an oily remover for my eye make-up is that it is effective, gentle and quick. I am a firm believer in being kind to the delicate eye area and feel when removing eye make-up an oily texture is the best way to go as it minimises rubbing and harsh swiping movements. For this reason I instantly took a dislike L'Oreal Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover.

Unlike my normal eye make-up removers (another great budget oil based eye make-up remover is The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye and Lip Make Up Remover F.Y.I) I really had to work hard to make it work for me. I'm talking 5 or so cotton pads soaked in the L'Oreal liquid to remover very basic eye make-up - no heavy smoky eyeshadow nor waterproof mascara. My fear is that in the long run being so harsh on a delicate area will result is premature ageing and other damage. Not cool. My other gripe is that it claims to be unscented and gentle yet it stung both nights I attempted to use it. Sure it is a budget price at around £3.50 a bottle but hand on heart The Body Shop and Garnier versions are far superior and around the same price point.
