We all go through phases?
At the moment I am on the quest to find the perfect gel liner and here are my specifications: must be black, must be reasonably priced, must not smudge or flake and must be fairly easy to source.

I spend a lot of time at beauty counters and I must have walked past the Revlon Colorstay Crème Gel Eye Liner several if not hundreds of times and thought nothing of it. Why? The packaging, it really is as simple as that. You see not so long ago a few budget brands launched gel liners in similar casings (a pot at the bottom with an in built brush of sorts) - by association I cast off the Revlon version assuming it would be just like the others - quick to flake and generally uncomfortable to wear. But I was wrong, very wrong and I should state that the packaging is actually a bonus. The supplied brush is a great size and works well the gel formulation, not to mention it means you can touch up your look on the go without the need for carrying around a full sized brush. It should be noted that the Revlon Colorstay Crème Gel Eye Liner is a very tiny pot so some of your regular brushes may not be suitable.

Revlon Colorstay Crème Gel Eye Liner used to come in a few shades (plum, black, brown and charcoal if I am correct) but here in the UK at least it seems the "funky" colours have been cast aside and all I can find in my local Boots and Superdrug stores is the black option. Not that I mind as I only really use black gel eyeliner but variety is always nice. Revlon Colorstay Crème Gel Eye Liner in Black is a rich, true black hue that applies somewhat glossy and settles down to a semi matte finish.

The Revlon Colorstay Crème Gel Eye Liner is a slightly waxier than usual gel liner which results in a slightly thicker and trickier to apply consistency. Would I recommend it for those just starting out with gel liner? In a word no but if you have mastered such formula I can't see there being too much of a problem, basically persistence is key. Annoyingly this doesn't glide on as smoothly as I had hoped but it doesn't exactly tug on the lids either. The up side of a slightly drier come waxy texture is that once applied and left to set this liner is going nowhere - it doesn't flake, smudge or crease even if faced with oily lids, water or even sweat (attractive I know). I like an eyeliner that I can apply first thing in the morning and know with utmost confidence that come 10pm it is still intact and that is exactly what Revlon Colorstay Crème Gel Eye Liner delivers. At £8.99 no it isn't the cheapest on the high street but it won't break the bank either.
