Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Concealer

With Sephora now shipping to the UK an entire world of new beauty products pretty much opened up for us that reside on such isle over night. One brand that forever catches my attention is that of the heavily tattooed Kat Von D. I used to love her on Miami and reading countless rave reviews of her make-up line via blogs lead me to purchasing a few items out of sheer curiosity. Undoubtedly one of the most raved about products has to be Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Concealer but how does it par with my beloved Make Up Forever Full Coverage Concealer?

Honestly I am still undecided on the entire Kat Von D cosmetics line when it comes to the packaging, as she is an artist I expected more creativity and do find the black rose design a little tacky but hey each to their own! Personal gripes aside the Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Concealer is well designed it comes in a reasonable sized squeeze tube design with a needle point nose to allow for precise application and I'm guessing to minimise waste. I must warn you that the consistency of this concealer is softer than I anticipated so don't squeeze to firmly for the first application. I went in guns a blazing and ended up wasting more product than I used first time around. Whoops. I should also mention that the scent is quite strong and has that typical make-up fragrance that I always notice in Avon Foundations. It has yet to irritate my skin but I feel it is worth mentioning none the less.

Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Concealer comes in nine shades, I have shade 22 which is a light medium tone that leans slightly pink. I always look for concealers with a pink undertone if I intend on using them on my undereye area as it can help to cancel out the blue tone of dark circles. Shade 22 has been created with those who have a medium complexion and slight beige undertones in mind. In my opinion it is a good option for those around the MAC NC30/35 mark, it also adapted well to my skin tone in the summer (I'm on my second tube) when I was closer to the NC37 mark. I do feel that the Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Concealer line should be commended for offering a wide range of shades from extremely pale to very deep, if only the UK could catch up!

Now on to the consistency which has completely surprised me, being hailed as a full coverage concealer I expected the texture to be slightly dry and thick much like Make Up Forever Full Coverage Concealer but it is not. Nope. Not at all, Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Concealer has a light creamy almost liquid texture that feels extremely light weight on the skin and is really easy to blend into anywhere on the face. It works well on the notoriously tricky under eye area, offering moderate coverage without creasing, caking or looking heavy. I do however feel that Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Concealer claiming to be a "heavy duty, highly pigmented, transfer- and water-resistant, multitasking concealer" is over shooting. It is nowhere near as full coverage as I expected - moderate or medium is what we are really looking at. Sure it can be layered on with ease and remains light weight but I truthfully don't have the patience for that in the morning, if something claims to be full coverage then it should deliver from the get go. Don't get me wrong I really like this concealer and do use it fairly regularly to cover light under eye circles and the odd blemish. It is long wearing, doesn't succumb to my oily skin and comfortable to wear. Yet if my skin has a freak out and needs something more industrial strength this is not the concealer I look for.
