Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation

So we are only four days into 2014 but mark my words this will be the year of the hight street/drug store - like a fine wine some brands are getting better with age and at the moment Maybelline are really bringing the heat. If you purchase one beauty product this month let it be Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation - it truly is a marvel and will rival or beat for that matter many of it's high end counterparts...

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation has been formulated to perfect the skin - it claims to offer medium coverage, smooth out uneven skin be that the surface or tone - bumps, dullness, redness and blemishes is what it is said to target. Oh but that is not all it also comes with a rather hefty claim that it will provide the appearance of better skin within three weeks of use. Truthfully I have doubts about the last claim, in my experience the only thing that has cleared up/improved my skin is eating well and a good skin care routine but don't judge the foundation on this slight over reach.

I can see where such claims come from though as it does contain some skin care ingredients such as vitamin B5 (binds and attracts water making it great for hydrating the skin), Magnesium (helps promote softer skin great for those with eczema), Copper (another to promote hydration but can help clear the skin as it naturally fights infection) and Zinc (often used to treat acne so can help promote clearer skin). I have been using this foundation for around two weeks veering into the third week and can't say it has I have noticed my skin to be any clearer but I should point out that my skin has been relatively clear for the last six months or so. I can vouch that it is a hydrating formula which has been aimed at normal skin but don't read too much into that as it does not overwhelm my oily skin and it also wore well on my sisters dry skin. I'm sure others may disagree but in my opinion this foundation is suited to all skin types. In terms of wear with no powder or primer I can easily achieve around 8 hours of wear - set with powder (again no primer) it is closer to the 10 hour mark.

From the moment I applied Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation (I find this light liquid to work best with my fingertips opposed to a brush or sponge technique) to the first patch of my skin I knew it was love. In terms of texture it has a second skin, slightly powdery finish and loose texture which may draw comparisons to the likes of Armani Maestro Foundation. The main difference (price aside of course) is that this sits so much better on my skin - it doesn't separate under the stress of my oily t-zone nor does it cling to any dry patches. Rather it glides on to the skin and creates the most perfect almost air brushed effect with no effort what so ever. I truly feel that Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation should be marketed as a 3-in-1 foundation : it disguises my enlarged pores much like a primer would, offers medium to high buildable coverage without caking or appearing heavy and lastly has a gentle matte soft focus powder finish once settled into the skin. Multi-tasker? No this is the all in one foundation I have been dreaming off - I can quickly apply it and don't have to worry about putting in groundwork. Bye bye primer, powder and concealer! Okay if I have a long day ahead I will finish with powder and apply concealer to my under eye but that really is it.

The shade range of Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Foundation isn't too shabby either - there is 8 shades in total. Sure it would be nice to see a few lighter and deeper shades thrown in there too but isn't that the case with the majority of high street foundations these days? I wear the shade Nude which is fairly golden toned and a good match for those around the NC30-35ish mark in MAC foundations.
Like I said it is only early days but this is a real contender in terms of best new foundation and will be hard to beat. 2014 show me what you got!
