This year for Winter 2013 Essie have launched five new top coats each one more beautiful than the last and truly fitting for the party season. Being top coats the idea is that you layer the glitter or shimmer based polish over another shade for a little extra pizazz but in my opinion the three glitter shades I own can also be worn on their own, granted it does take around four coats to achieve such effect.
As mentioned there is five new shades to choose from two of which are shimmer based and not really my bag so I plumped for the three chunky, full on glitter hues..I'm like a moth to the flame when it comes to glitter.
A Cut Above - A clear base with various sizes of light pink glitter, the perfect girlie choice. I like to wear this as a gradient over a baby pink nail polish for festive Barbie nails but it also looks beautiful over a black, navy or any pastel polish.
Set in Stones - Much like above this is a clear base with thousands upon thousands particles of various sized silver glitter. If you like a hard working polish then this one is for you as the layering possibilities are endless. There is not a shade that this won't go with, think of it as your staple glitter nail polish.
Stroke of Brilliance - Unsurprisingly this is a clear base coat but this time around the glitter chunks are a dusky blue - almost cornflower blue which is fairly unusual. Okay baby pink may not be festive but there is no denying that the frosty hues of blue and silver are perfect for the colder weather. I personally like to team this with a pale blue polish to satisfy my inner Jack Frost or layer over a navy polish for a night sky effect. It also looks beautiful in a simplistic sense over a white base.
This year glitter polishes just became a whole lot more luxe...

I picked up the purple shade today but believe it or not, actually put it back again. They're lovely and fun, but I have something similar already and when you build it up with 4 coats or more, it only takes a small nudge for the whole thing to come off so I think I'll pass. Xx

Absolutely gorgeous! Did you find that they were super difficult to remove though? They look like they would be :P
ReplyDeleteI'm usually not a glitter kind of girl, but those look gorgeous! I might have to buy one or two. Thanks for the tip :)

Are these new releases or just promoted colors in the Winter Collection. I bought A Cut Above a couple of years ago. Its one of my favorite glitter top coats and looks excellent over rose gold polish.
ReplyDeleteLove each and every one :)

These are beautiful glitters! Like you, I tend to reach for the chunkier ones instead of the finer ones. I will definitely be picking up some of these for the holiday season! Thanks for sharing :)
