MUA Ever After Matte Palette

Despite my make-up tendencies running towards the shimmery spectrum I do enjoy the odd matte eyeshadow offering from time to time and at £4 I thought the MUA Ever After Matte Palette could well be a great addition to my stash. Sadly that was not the case and here is why...

Much like all of the MUA eyeshadow palettes I have bought in the past the MUA Ever After Matte Palette comes presented within a shiny plastic palette style casing which is well sized albeit a little flimsy in terms of structure. It comes complete with 10 well sized eyeshadow pans and a foam applicator. Although it does look and feel a little on the cheap side (hey it was only £4 something has to give!) I have yet to experience any problems with this packaging style i.e the case or the shadows shattering.

Truthfully in terms of shade selection I didn't find the MUA Ever After Matte Palette to be all the appealing and purchased it as I heard such wonderful things regarding it via the blogging world. To my eye the shades are a little wishy washy and don't fully form a coherent colour spectrum i.e a neutral selection,  a bright selection and so on. Rather the shades are washed out. a little samey and not at all appealing, well to my eye at least. A quick run down of the colours inside : a stark white, a few yellow based ivory tones, a few peachy pinks, two light browns, two dark browns, a teal and an almost black.

I could look aside the colour range had the quality been there as there is two browns that would make wonderful blending shades (one is almost a dupe for MAC Soft Brown) and a few could be used on the brows but sadly I found the formulation to be chalky and difficult to work with. To begin the formula is dry, prone to fall out and the majority lack in pigmentation. They really have to be piled on for decent colour pay off which results in a heavy finish and not something the majority of us strive to achieve. They also tend to blend out to next to nothing or nothing at all in some cases with only the teal blue, one of the darker browns and the near black being wearable in terms of pigmentation. Truthfully this is not unusual for high street matte offerings with the likes of Sleek also struggle with the matte formulation so it doesn't put me off MUA as a brand but I will be skipping any future matte eyeshadow offerings.
