I hope you don't mind posts that skim the fat? I personally am over the MAC RIRI ♥ Fall Collection which is completely my own doing given that I haven't stopped harping on about it since around April of this year. Oops. Anyway keeping in with a slightly condensed post I should mention that the all the lipsticks in this collective once again feature the rose gold chrome casing but unlike the powder products this casing is actually metal. The one fault I have found with the three shades I bought this time around is that the lids are rather stiff and don't come off as easily as I would like nor do they click shut with ease. I am clearly nit picking but I thought you'd like to know none the less.
As you may or may not know the majority of Rihanna's MAC lipstick offerings are based around the now famous MAC Ruby Woo Retro Matte formula so as a result they can be rather drying. As such formulation is truly matte I find that it can tug and pull a little on the lips and has a slightly waxy texture that can cling to dry patches. However what the waxy texture allows the lipstick to fully cling to the lips and wear true for close to four hours, there's not many lipstick formulas you can say that about. However having said that this time around there is a frost (Who's That Chick), a normal matte (Nude) and of course the two retro matte formula's (RiRi Woo and Talk that Talk).
Nude - Officially described as a cool toned nude which is apt but only translates as such on deeper complexions and those with more pigmented lips than I. On light to medium complexions this takes on a more taupe (grey based brown) in my opinion and is not the most flattering. However if you have a deeper skin tone I believe this will ring far more nude in tone. Despite being listed as a matte formula this is not at all drying and has a light sheen. I actually like that such a hyped up collection has made their core nude shade more suited to those with a dark complexion. Kudos to you MAC for side stepping the normal milky tan nudes.
RiRi Woo - I have reviewed RiRi Woo in the past here - link.
Talk that Talk - If you do not like true matte formula's then body swerve this shade as it is not for you and truth be told application of such formulation can be testing at best. Listed as a "deep plum" which is of course true but in my opinion it is more of a deep raisin like shade with a strong red undertone- very pretty indeed. If you are hoping for a lipstick that slicks on the lips with next to no effort this is not the one, it pulls and tugs on the lips and takes a few applications for even coverage. Sure I like the colour and even the super matte finish but I can appreciate it is not for everyone, it is however my lipstick choice for a few Halloween events.
Who's that Chick - I'm going to be honest and say I do not know what possessed me to purchase this shade or MAC to okay it as it is what frosty lipstick nightmares are made of. A bright almost foil effect tangerine lipstick that is pretty garnish truth be told. Who's that Chick is a mid-toned orange shade that is unlikely to be flattering on the majority the saving grace is that it is the least drying formula of the bunch and does glide on fairly easily.
MAC have restocked the lipsticks today so should any tickle your fancy you can purchase them here - link.
wow all shades are lovely :)
ReplyDeleteWell these actually look better than i expected them too, not as dark as i initially thought and really gorge. I particularly like the first shade!

The thing I like about all these shades is that they're obviously going to suit people with darker skin, which a lot of collections don't even try too. I think the frosty apricot would look awesome on someone with dark skin, personally I like the dark raisin shade best.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love the packaging but not afan of celebrity endorsements so will probably give these a miss

I am desperate for the nude but its out of stock everywhere!
ReplyDeleteI like the look of these shades, but I don't think I'll be purchasing any of them! I thought "Talk That Talk" was a matte black at first haha!

I really don't think these are for me, that nude would look ridiculous on my pale skin! I suppose Rihanna is famous for being out there in her fashion and makeup and these are very 'her', but not very 'me' :)

I picked up Talk that Talk last week and although I absolutely adore the colour, it really isn't easy to get right. It takes a lot of working with and quite a while to get even coverage and the look you want. It drags more than any matte shade I've ever used, and is extremely drying, even with a lip balm underneath. Once its on, though, it's staying power is really good and the colour is beautiful. I just wish it wasn't such a pain to apply!!
