Creeping under the radar is a new range of eyeshadow primers from Clinique but with a difference unlike other brands one shade does not suit all. Rather you purchase the shade closest to your skin tone so you have a natural result that not only keeps eyeshadow in place but gently tints the eyelids too disguising veins and discolouration. Very clever indeed.
At the moment there is four shades to choose from in the Clinique All About Shadow Primer for Eyes line but a word to the wise is that when it comes to bases of any kind Clinique run on the darker side. Typically speaking I slot into the medium skin spectrum sometimes medium deep yet in Clinique foundations I wear Ivory...says it all really. The new eye primers are no different I have been testing out the shade 02 Moderately Fair which is better described as a medium tan shade - in-fact it is deeper than some medium shades I own. For that reason alone please do not blind buy unless you are utterly convinced you know the shade you will need - I would have went for medium and it would have been far too deep!
Despite not being a fan of doe foot applicators in general I have to give credit where due and say that with the Clinique All About Shadow Primer for Eyes this style works rather well - you can simply dot on and blend over the lids, zero fuss, zero mess. The primer itself is fairly thick so do take a less is more approach as a little goes a long way. The texture is soft and as you most likely expected it does have a silky texture due to the silicones present. I personally enjoy such formulations as the smooth, fill and cling to any product applied over the top but I fully understand that they are not for everyone be it allergies or simply preference. As mentioned above this is a tinted formula and in my experience not only does it prime the lids but also acts as a light coverage concealer disguising discolouration and veins which is always a bonus. In the last few days I have tested this primer out with powder, cream and gel formulations and I have to say it is faultless on my often oily lids. Nothing creases, smears or gathers into my creases just fresh bright eye make-up from application until removal. As long as you get the correct shade this is a great eyeshadow primer and could well rival my beloved Urban Decay Primer Potion.

I'm a lover of Urban Decay primer potion too! But it's the only eye primer I've ever tried so I am curious to try out some other options.
ReplyDeleteI've avoided Clinique since a very bad experience with their 3 step skincare AGES ago, but this product is tempting me back to them..
I really want to try one of their new face primers too, maybe their primers will convert me to being a Clinque fan :)

I'm surprised at how dark this is, i'm sure to a lot of brands running a little on the darker side but that's really noticeable! I hope their lightest shade works for me because i really like the sound of this.
