Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee in Coral Oasis

Phew what a title and let me tell you it hardly rolls of the tongue, in Sephora they were simply referring to the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee as "cheek gelee's" as there is nothing else quite like it so should you visit you know what to ask for. If you are a fan of light flushes of colour my goodness do I have a product for you...

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee's could easily be mistaken for a Korres product, they have a rather similar design aesthetic - small sleek and clean looking jars with colour coordinated lids matching the tone of the product held within. My only grumble would be that they are made of glass and I did see a good few chipped jars in Sephora suggesting that they won't survive a drop which is worrying. Other than that they do look great and the lid closes firmly preventing the cheek gelee from drying out over time.

A quick look on the Sephora (sorry I don't know where else stocks Josie Maran) website shows that there is six shades currently available - I went for Coral Oasis which has been dubbed a tangerine orange which is somewhat true. To elaborate a little further I would deem it to be a light but bright yellow based orange which isn't at all coral despite the product name. Yes orange blushes can be a little daunting but as this is so sheer it is the perfect way to inject a little colour into your make-up routine without the fear of it appearing garish. Of course if you have mastered the art of colour (I sadly haven't) you can layer this blush on without it caking or ever looking heavy. However in my opinion these blushes which almost have a balm like texture (not jelly as the images may suggest) have been created to be worn sheer and for that reason I find they work best with lighter bases such as a BB Cream or tinted moisturiser. I particularly like to team it with NARS Sheer Glow foundation for all radiance. If a natural glowy cheek product is what the heart desires this is what you need.

As you may know all of Josie Maran products have a natural basis and the Cheek Gelee's are no different this formula contains 50% Coconut water which is the products main selling point as it claims to offer up to 14 hours hydration. Coconut water can hydrate the skin while increasing elasticity levels and can prevent the skin from drying out. Adding to the blushes moisturising claims and properties for that matter it also contains Argain Oil which features a natural high does of  vitamin E, which helps protect against sun damage and of course protect the skin barrier while hydrating at the same time. Oh but that is not all this little wonder of a blush also features glycerin which is renowned for aiding the skins ability in retaining water. Initially I was a little concerned about wearing this blush as having oily skin can sometime mean that hydrating formula's can overwhelm my skin but I can safely say that was not the case. It glides on to the skin and does not highlight any imperfections such as enlarged pores and of course won't cling to dry or rough patches. Sadly it does fall flat of the 14 hour wear claim - it was around 10 hours on my skin type (it stains to a certain extent) but hey I was never going to leave a make-up on for as long as 14 hours anyway! The waterproof claim is somewhat true - it won't fall at the first hurdle such as rain but it won't survive a dip in the pool.

Summed up worth the hype, blush meets skin care and if you can get your hands on one do so ASAP!

Random Fact - Coconut Water can be used as a substitute for blood plasma apparently.
