Only kidding!
Surprisingly I went down a dress size while visiting the states as I walked everywhere, swam when the weather permitted and went to the gym. Admittedly not how most would spend their holiday but when you allow yourself to gorge on utter junk something has to give doesn't it?
I've harped on and on about Five Guys and hands down it is the best burger that I have ever tasted and the one place I recommend above all. Gah so yummy! We also tried out A&W Burgers which were a let down, to me they tasted very similar to those microwave burgers you may have indulged on when younger. To put the age old argument to bed the Mcdonald's menu in the states doesn't taste any different to what we have in the UK. Yes Orlando has the biggest Mcdonald's in the world which offers pizza, curry etc but the burgers and fries aren't any more generous in size or taste for that matter.
What I did find different was the pizza, we ordered take out from Pizza Hut one night and I have to say it was disgusting - soggy and despite being the regular pizza we would order if treating ourselves back home it tasted nothing alike. Speaking off pizza I did try Domino's out for the first time ever and have to say that I really don't get all the fuss, again the pizza was soggy and just generally rank. Their potato wedges and blue cheese dip were rather yummy though - swings and roundabouts. While we are on the topic of firsts I did taste Pinkberry frozen yogurt which was a new and sadly unappealing experience for me. I ordered the original flavor with a dollop of Nutella and found it to taste rather sour and not as fresh as it looked. Maybe I was just unlucky? Who knows but I'm in no hurry to rush back.
Places I would highly recommend trying out while stateside have to be Chili's which is a little like TGI Fridays but with much better food and service. The fajita's are to die for and I am told that the burgers which come fully loaded are a treat too. You also can not go wrong with Denny's and I-Hop both tend to be open 24/7 and have something for everyone - burgers, pasta, steak and even quasadilla's which I-Hop do really well. The Dairy Queen unsurprisingly does ice-cream rather well not to mention they make a mean slush puppy but the food is rather dull and basic, if staying on International Drive in Florida you must visit the frozen yogurt shop directly facing the International Palms Hotel - I could eat the cake batter flavor until the cows came home. Next door to that is a good place to grab breakfast (fry-up's etc) and they do some mean Nacho's even if I did find the US liquid cheese a little more than I could handle but do make sure you try out the Pineapple and Grape versions of Fanta as they are delicious and well missed now I'm back home.
Looking back on my American food diary does make me feel rather guilty, whoops.
Now excuse me while I lace up my running shoes as my thighs still haven't quite forgiven me!
Random Fact - 101 Dalmatians and Peter Pan (Wendy) are the only two Disney cartoon features with both parents that are present and don't die throughout the movie.
My stir fry for tea doesn't look quite as tempting now! Great post, I do love some American junk food! ;) xx

I must say that in print, all those foods sound yummy...but seeing them all there laid out like that....it all looks rather gross! Those photos are all that's wrong with the dear old USA. Probably tasted yum tho!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Canada and my boy just went through part of the states, Michigan and North Dakota.. he says the prices are so different! You get so much food for so little money in America. It's over $10 CAD for a TEN piece chicken nugget meal at McDonald's here (I think that's about 6 pounds?) but it's like half that in America for the same thing, he says! I actually quite like Pizza Hut in Canada, but I'm also not a fan of Dominos. I don't eat meat so I can't say I'm totally appetized by all these photos, hehe, but I'm glad you got to try new things.
ReplyDeleteDon't feel guilty, that food looks bloody delicious!
ReplyDeleteOne of the main reasons I want to go to Canada and New York is for the food! I love food so much, even though I really need to lay off of it. xD

Oh Glorious Burgers, where art thou?? I love Chilli's burgers! They're rather huge & SATIS.FYING!
ReplyDeleteI hate KFC in the Uk, but when we were on our holds in Orlando we nipped in and, boy o boy, it was awesome. So different, and i love their 'biscuits', which are like a deep fried scone.
ReplyDeleteI was addicted to bbq pulled pork sandwiches and ribs. Food is so much nicer out there.

When in the US you have to eat junk food, they have so many more fast food places then we do! I'm pretty sure if I lived there I would turn massive :P
