With the sun in the sky I have a tendency to desire a more dewy finish - a summer glow if you will.
Today in-between pretending that I understand the rules of tennis (I don't) and sunbathing I have been routing around in my stash of make-up for products that not only add a little radiance to the skin but also items that seem a little more summer ready.
First up we have Mo-Nogo-Tas body spray in Manzana (apple in Spanish) which I insist you check out if you are visiting Spain in the coming weeks or at any point. Basically these cheap and cheerful body sprays are more akin with an Eau de Toilette than a typical body spray particularly in terms of wear. My favourite is Manzana which smells rather like DKNY Be Delicious but is a little softer, others to check out in my opinion is the coconut, pear and mango versions. Sometimes I wear a few at a time as they are single note fragrances so you can mix and match to create your own fruity concoction.
If like myself you prefer a medium to full coverage foundation but don't want a matte or heavy finish then your next stop should be the L'Oreal counter. I swear by L'Oreal Lumi Magique Foundation - it is weightless on the skin, offers brilliant coverage without caking and wears wonderfully, even in warmer climes. For £10.99 you really can't beat it, I only wish L'Oreal would create a matching setting powder.
Luckily I have been sleeping well so dark circles aren't currently a problem but I do like to use a little under eye concealer none the less to brighten and highlight the area and I have just re-discovered an old favourite. Collection's Illuminating Touch Concealer - think of it as the budget version of YSL's Touche Eclat. It conceals and highlights in one quick step and I rather like it!
I am a huge fan of multi-purpose products and for that reason I adore St Tropez Skin Illuminator in Rose, you can mix it with foundation to add a touch of radiance, apply as you would a typical liquid highlighter and/or apply to the body. This little tube does so much and is the perfect all round illuminator. My personal favourite is the rose version but you can also pick up violet and gold, the best part is that they are currently on offer at Boots for £8 each which is at least £4 cheaper than elsewhere - link.
As much as I love matte lipstick there is a time and a place for such formula and warm sticky weather really isn't it, instead I plan on dusting off my Revlon Lip Butters and my favourite has to be Brown Sugar. Admittedly this is a shade that looks rather off putting and dare I say it ugly when in viewed in the tube but once on the lips it is a rather pretty yellow toned nude that is very wearable. The reason why I rate Revlon Lip Butters is because they offer the pigmentation of a lipstick but coupled with the hydration levels of a lip balm and a light sheen. Basically they are perfect for lazy sunshine soaked days.
The blush freeing itself from the beauty vaults this week for a second lease of life is MAC Bite of an Apple Blush which I have had for a few years now and never really given it much love. The thing with this shade is that the bright coral red doesn't really suit me when I am brunette which I have been for the majority of the past three years but with blonde hair and a tan I find it really works. This shade has long been discontinued but apparently Le Femme Blush (Genie Cosmetics-link) in Coral is a great dupe as is
NYX Blush in Red- link.
Lastly I have just rediscovered La Roche-Posay Eau Thermal which is a simple Thermal Spring Water Spray that doesn't claim to have the answer to all your skin woes unlike some facial mists but it will instantly cool and refresh warm skin.

I wasn't keen on the L'oreal Lumi Magique foundation when I tried it. It made my t zone look sooo oily! But I think I may crack it out again and press powder over it.

I rely heavily on my L'Oreal Lumi Magique foundation too. I love the lightweight, semi dewy finish :) I'd also love it if L'Oreal released a matching setting powder. What a lovely combo they would make :)
ReplyDeleteThe L'oreal Lumi foundation is a favourite of mine too, I was very surprised by the good coverage as I assumed that most lumizing base products tend to veer towards the sheer side. It's just beautiful on the skin though I wish it'd last a bit better in the warmer weather. However for spring or fall here, it's perfect!
