Let me begin by saying that no I don't think that Bourjois Bronzing Primer is a dupe for Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel but it is a great alternative and a pretty decent product, dupe or not!
Much like Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel, the Bourjois Bronzing Primer comes presented within a screw top jar but only on a smaller scale which I oddly prefer. As much as I enjoy the Chanel version the size of the huge pot is a nightmare to travel with , where as the Bourjois small pot slips into any bag and is lightweight - winner!
The reason I have stated that I don't find the the Chanel and Bourjois bronzing cream products all that similar is based not only on colour, texture but also ease of use. Firstly the two differ greatly in shade - Chanel is a lighter olive based tone and Bourjois is slightly darker with a strong golden undertone. Next the texture are in no way similar - Soleil Tan de Chanel is a firm mousse like product and the bronzing primer has a soft jelly like texture. Lastly despite a huge price difference the Bourjois offering is far easier to apply - it glides onto the skin and can be easily buffed to a sheer finish, the same can not be said for Madam Coco's offering.
How you use the Bronzing Primer is entirely up you yourself, you can use it all over the face to tint the skin instead of a base product or you can use it as bronze based primer to help prolong make-up wear. As it is a bronzing product you can of course use it like its powder counterpart and blend into the skin anywhere the sun naturally hits to warm the complexion. Due to the primer being matte should you wish this can also double up as a contour product. As mentioned above the Bourjois shade is a medium based matte bronze with a strong yellow undertone which allows it to lean neutral, it is almost identical in tone to the Bronzing BB Cream by the same name. Is it a suit all shade as it claims to be? No but most light to medium complexions should be able to use the product. The same applies for the scent - it reminds me of sun lotion crossed with chocolate. It is mild, pleasant and fades quickly.
The Bourjois Bronzing Primer is a bronzing product but with a difference, unlike the Bourjois Bronze BB Cream this doesn't just add a hint of colour to the skin but actually primes the skin too should you want to apply foundation and/or powder on top. Bourjois also claim that this little bronze pot mattifies the skin and evens out the skin tone. I agree with the evening out part, it does leave the skin looking far more even and rids the appearance of redness and in my case helped to disguise a few old acne scars. However I don't agree with the mattifying claim - on the contrary I found it leave my skin with a dewy natural glow in terms of finish which is very fitting for the summer. If you are hoping for a product to bronze all the while leaving the skin matte and hopefully aiding oil control this is not the one but to add a natural bronze tinge to the skin and helping to prolong any make-up place on top of such product this is well worth the investment.
If you are swaying between cream based bronzers and don't know which one to pick I say go for the Bourjois Bronzing Primer - it is far easier to use, gives a natural hint of colour and gives the user far more bang for their buck in terms of uses.

Ooh this looks really interesting; I'm not usually one for bronzers but this has convinced me maybe I need to try them :) x
ReplyDeleteThis sounds a little like the Clarins Instant Smooth Self tanning. Love the Chanel Tan de Soleil also...must give this a try :)

I'm not the one to use bronzers, but I've read soooo many reviews on CC version and I was almost sold on the idea of trying such a product, but the price did set me off. As soon as these babies hit displays in my country, I'm getting one. Along with their cream blushes, which are not yet here...
ReplyDeleteReally want to try this! Looks like it gives a nice colour xx

This looks really nice. I think I would use it just as a bronzer rather than all over though, so I don't look orange.

I really want to try this. I've picked it up and put it back countless times telling myself I didn't need it. Thanks to you, I'm going to be throwing it back in my basket. I've swatched it a few times and it looked matte but to be honest, I still liked the conistency anyway. I'd use this on its' own on good skin days :)

I find the name quite odd, but aside from that, this looks to be such an amazing product! I love how it's less orange than the Chanel one!

Picked this up 3 weeks ago and have used it in all manner of ways! As an all over sheer wash of colour on days when my skin is behaving, as a contour over foundation (Revlon photoready airbrush) for nights out, and as a primer under Bourgois Healthy Mix Serum foundation. Cannot fault it in any of the 3 applications, it's super easy to buff and blend out either with fingertips or a brush, glides on to the skin, akin to most other silicon based primers, and doesn't cling to dry patches. This is a GREAT product and has become a summer staple for me!
ReplyDeleteIf people use this as a primer i can just see people walking about looking like a marshmallow dipped in chocolate haha i think it would be good for specific parts like a cream bronzer but not as a primer

Haha I know what you mean but if you are tanned like myself it is oddly natural I promise :)
DeleteI'll definitely give it a try! Thanks for posting this xx

I totally agree with you- Chanel soleil de tan is a pain to travel with as its so large. I've really wanted to try this primer but its been sold out in all the Boots I've gone to. It might have to be an order-online job I think! Xx
ReplyDeleteI love this as a cream bronzer but I'm yet to try it as a primer, will do soon though!

I've been waiting for reviews on this! As always your review is amazing - so detailed and informative! xx
ReplyDeleteI keep hearing the nicest things about it. Not sure if I'd give it a go myself but I love how despite being the cheaper alternative, it applies and glides on easier than the Chanel offering. If I were to purchase it, I might try and make it work as a subtle contour :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks really interesting! Maybe when I get a bit more of a tan I'll give it a go :) x

I just can't decide whether to try this or not, I love to contour my face but i'm not sure if i'd just rather stick to powder bronzer xx
ReplyDeleteI got this today as it was 3 quid off at superdrug. I put a stripe on my big forehead and contoured the cheek bones and blended which it did really well. Im pleased with it.x
ReplyDeleteJust ordered this, as well as the bronzing BB and the maxi powder bronzer.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review. :) Can't wait to try them.
