I was clearing out last night and stumbled across Illamasqua's Prosperity Nail Polish from the Rubber Brights Collection of late 2012 - a bright almost neon purple nail polish that just screamed paint me on instantly.
I will be the first to say that no Illamasqua Nail Polishes aren't cheap at £14.50 a pop but the quality is well and truly there. In my experience each shade slicks on fully opaque with no more than two coats needed, a thick creamy texture that dries almost instantly and wears well even without a top coat and Illamasqua's Prosperity is no different...well that is a lie it has a bizarre finish!
As you may have gathered the whole point of the Illamasqua Rubber Brights Nail Collection was to mimic the effect of rubber on the nails and I would say it is a successful attempt. On the nails Prosperity is a deep vampy purple that has a little something extra in terms of tone, I'm not quite sure what but it is not your typical lilac polish that is for sure. Yet the rubber finish is wasted on me. I don't like it - to my eyes it looks like a dull, flat manicure that is screaming out for a glossy top coat which I applied as soon as I snapped the images. I should point out that is not a criticism of Illamasqua as I'm sure a good few rate the rubber finish and kudos to the brand for trying something a little different but for me I'm afraid I'm always going to be a glossy finish type of gal.
Although the Illamasqua Rubber Bright Collection was/is limited edition you can still purchase a few shades online via Illamasqua's web store for £14.50/15ml - link
What do you think of the rubber finish or any texturised nail polish for that matter?
Random Fact - Christopher Columbus discovered natural rubber in Haiti where he saw the natives there playing with ball made from the "sap" of a tree called "cau-uchu."
I felt the same about the rubber finish - it didn't bowl me over at all, despite loving Illamasqua polishes. x
ReplyDeleteI love the colour but you're right the finish is really different xxxx

It looks so pretty in the bottle! Shame it dulls down on the nails tho!
ReplyDeleteLove this colour, it's beautiful but I prefer a glossy finish!

I definitely prefer a glossy finish, fair play to them for trying something new though!

Like everyone else I would have definitely preferred a glossier finish - still a gorgeous shade though! x
ReplyDeleteI think the problem with the rubber finish is it doesn't work to show how gorgeous the color is! I'm adoring that color in the bottle, too bad it doesn't translate onto the nails!

this shade is gorgeous! although im not too much of a fan of matte finishes... i love a glossy look!
ReplyDeletePretty color - purple is my favorite - but I don't like the finish either! Before I read the post I was wishing you would give those poor nails a top coat :-) Cool concept though!

I agree with you about the finish, the colour is fab but the finish is a little strange :S I prefer matte over that.
ReplyDeletei have to say whenever i see that small print at the end of anyone elses blogposts,im always disapointed that its not a random fact
ReplyDeleteI like the colour and the I like the finished look on the nails. But I don't think I would spend over £14 for it!
