At the moment I have been using cream eyeshadows in place of a typical primer and/or as my only eye make-up choice mostly because I am utterly lazy but with oily skin I have found that most and I say most cream products stay in place longer than powder products. With that in mind I was keen to put E.L.F Jumbo Eyeshadow Stick in French Lace to the test.
Much like NYX's Jumbo Pencils E.L.F's version come presented within large chunky crayon style containers which are easy to use, grip and as they don't require sharpening you don't have to worry about loosing half of your pencil to a sharpener. To release new product all you have do is wind up the bottom of the pencil which is always convenient.
At the moment E.L.F offer 10 shades of the E.L.F Jumbo Eyeshadow Stick which I do think is pretty substantial and a pretty varied range - neutrals, deep shades and a few pops of colour. In the end I went for a few neutral shades including E.L.F French Lace. This is a light champagne shade that is essentially a light golden tinged beige shade that could be used as both an eyeshadow and as cream highlighter. As pretty as the shade French Lace is sadly the formula isn't all that wonderful.
Now don't get me wrong the formula glides on with such ease which is always a blessing on the delicate eye area and in theory as it is a pencil product it can be used in a multitude of ways including: as an eyeliner, as an all over wash of colour and as a base to apply powder products on top of.
All of this would be true if the formula wasn't so prone to creasing - I have tried everything including between several switching primers, not using a primer (not sure how that would help but I tried none the less) and layering powder products on top to no avail. In the end it really didn't matter what I did within an hour, two at a push E.L.F Jumbo Eyeshadow Stick gave up the will to live and creased. Normally I would blame my oily lids but with such a reduced wear time I'm afraid in this instance the formula is to blame but I guess at £2.50 you can't complain all that much.

I've never purchased any e.l.f. products and you've just illustrated why, some of the products seem like a good deal, but they're generally a bit more pants than most 'cheaper' brands x

Yep, mine is exactly the same even with a primer it creases really quickly! Such a shame cause it's a really nice colour x
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit of a shame about this product although the colour is very pretty..I have a very similar one which is very good by KIKO and I haven't found any creasing problem :)

I'm loving cream eyeshadows at the minute but only because they don't usually crease but I think I'll give this one a miss. ELF is usually a bit hit and miss.
