It has been forever and a day since I last posted a beauty school drop out post but I think it is about time that it made it's return as I have a few products that just don't float my boat. I deem this type of product just as important as a favourites post as sometimes it is nice to read about products that don't quite make the grade. I can't promise that you will agree with what I am about to divulge but I can pinkie swear it is the truth, that being said please bear in mind that this post is simply my personal opinion and what I loathe may be a staple product for you!
Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Pressed Powder
I know it is almost blasphemous to besmirch the power house that is Chanel but frankly myself and Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Pressed Powder do not get on. Before I purchased this compact I had read all the glowing (no pun intended) reviews and thought it was exactly what my heart desired - a light powder that sets make-up and leaves skin dewy, consider me sold. Only problem is that it did not deliver, the powder doesn't feel as light as air on my skin, there's no dewy radiance finish when applied to my skin and as it is so highly perfumed it broke my skin out like crazy. Sorry Chanel this time you let me down.
Caudalie Beauty Elixir
Yet again a product that seemingly delivered all I could desire in one quick spritz. I had read countless reviews on how Caudalie Beauty Elixir was more than a cooling spray some claimed it cooled the skin (I agree), others said it made a wonderful toner and then I read about how this could banish blemishes and set make-up. Yep if it sounds too good to be true it normally is. Now don't get me wrong as far as cooling sprays go I like this one - pungent scent aside as it has such a fine mist that doesn't soak the skin but other than that it is just a glorified cooling mist. Caudalie Beauty Elixir does not calm skin irritations nor will it set your make-up nor does it remove make-up. I'm afraid this is one product that has been over hyped to be something it is not!
Rimmel Scandaleyes Volume Flash Mascara
Normally I am a huge fan of Rimmel mascara's and would personally deem their offerings to be some of the best on the UK high street but I am afraid Rimmel Scandaleyes Volume Flash Mascara. Firstly the brush head is huge and makes it neigh impossible to catch those pesky corner eye lashes or the dinky little bottle lashes. However my main problem is the formula it irritated my eyes like no other, each time I have applied Rimmel Scandaleyes Volume Flash Mascara my eyes stream, water and burn which as you can imagine is less than pleasant. I do wonder if perhaps my eyes have become sensitive for some odd reason and would love to hear from anyone who has tried this product out for themselves?
Clarins BB Cream
In my eyes Clarins can do very little wrong and it is a brand I am loyal to well apart from their BB Cream that is. Technically there is nothing wrong with their BB Cream in-fact the texture is rather lovely and on the whole it covers well but my goodness is the shade spectrum bizarre. I have shade light which is so far from being light it is confusing - light is rather orange based, not all that flattering and not at all a light shade. I really do hope Clarins re-formulate their shades as like I said the texture is great and should there ever be a better match for my skin tone I can almost guarantee you that I would be a huge advocate.
Barry M Confetti Nail Paints
As much as I love Barry M nail paints (many will know I have a soft spot for their Gelly's) I just can't get on board with their Confetti Nail Paints and I feel the same way towards Nails Inc Feather polishes. Are they meant to look fluffy, glittery or what? Maybe I'm just getting old but the textured nail polish trend is one train I have yet to board.
What products have let you down recently?
Random Fact - In Miami, it is forbidden to imitate an animal.
I had the same problem with the rimmel mascara, it was so bad and my eyes seemed to hate it :/ this was a really helpful post because I've been looking at a few of those products :') x
ReplyDeleteIt is so odd because I have a good few Rimmel mascara's and they are more than fine. So glad I could help thank you for reading :)
DeleteNice to see someone not love hyped products. I haven't even been near the chanel powder but it's certainly been catching my attention, I just love my mac MSFN for setting my make up so much.

Thanks Shen :) honestly the chanel powder did nothing for me which is a shame as it did seem so promising. I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it!
DeleteI love the brush on the Rimmel mascara but I think it's only useful if you already have long eyelashes as getting to pesky areas isn't a problem. I haven't found anything irritating about the formula but my mum has quite sensitive eyes and it did irritate her. I would however recommend trying out it's sister product Scandaleyes Show Off :)
ReplyDeleteI switched to that as my everyday mascara from using Diorshow mascara (which would still be my daily if I had the money), and it's been a perfectly comparable replacement! The brush isn't as big as the original Scandaleyes and has a ball-shaped end which perfectly suits corners and lower lashes. And I've found the formula a little gentler than Scandaleyes so it might be worth checking out!
I'm planning on doing a review of it in a couple of weeks when I finish my uni exams so I'd be honoured if you check it out when the time comes at http://charbop.blogspot.com/
Thanks :D
Char xox
Is the one in a pink tube? I tried that a few months ago and really liked it but when the time comes to replace it I recommend Revlon's Photo Ready Volume Mascara which is easily the best mascara I have tried on the high street :) I'd love to read your review! In fact i'll have a nosy at your blog tonight! x
DeleteOoh I've not tried that but I do love me some Revlon so I'll definitely check that out, thanks! And thanks as always for the really great reviews - definitely my favourite beauty blog ^_^ xox
DeleteI swear by it, it really is a brilliant mascara I must pop a review soon :) aww bless thank you so much that is beyond kind! x
DeleteI know what you mean about the mascara making your eyes water.. it makes my eyes water too, but only if I apply more than one coat (which I normally do anyway)
ReplyDeletePanda eyes is never a good look!

I agree and I'm a two coat kinda gal. So glad that I'm not the only one who struggled with this mascara!
DeleteThat clarins BB is a strange one, they gave me a sample pack of 3 shades in the light section and all 3 where where too dark and i am not even that pale...nw25-ish.....odd behavior by clarins.
ReplyDeleteDitto! I'm normally a medium-medium dark kinda gal and this time around the light is an okay match...orange toned but almost okay haha!
DeleteI do love the scent of the Chanel powder. But I mst say, it does not feel light at all. And the colour is slightly too dark I think, for the lightest colour available. I do use it, since I paid good money for it, but I will not repurchase.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree the shades run quite dark they go from semi-pale into what I deem to be a bronze. I'm with you on that one it won't be a re-purchase for me either.
DeleteIt's nice to see bloggers talking about products they don't get on with rather, these kind of posts can be just as helpful - Rosie :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Rosie :) has any product underwhelmed you recently?
DeleteI really, really hate Elemis Flash Balm... I have a review scheduled on it, but I felt like I was committing treason as I wrote it! Also don't get on with Korres. *Sigh*- at least it saves me money, right?!
ReplyDeleteHaha yes it does and the world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same thing!
DeleteSuper helpful post, it's nice to see that someone's still honest in the blogging world. :) x
ReplyDeleteThanks Summer that is so very kind of you to say!x
DeleteI too was rather underwhelmed with the Chanel powder when it finally hit counters. I figured it would work better as a light bronzer than as a all over powder and since I'd just purchased a Burberry bronzer which I simply love, I gave it a pass.
ReplyDeleteI'm fortunate to match one of the three shades of the Clarins BB Cream, but I totally agree with you that the shade selection is just bizarre. Do they have any idea of how many potential customers they are losing?
Ohh I have yet to explore Burberry Beauty, there's not a counter near me and I like to have a feel/swatch when it comes to new brands. Maybe when I hit the states I may have to treat myself ;)
DeleteYes I agree, there is no option for those with truly light skin tones but I do applaud them for having a proper dark shade as deep skin tones are often over looked. I guess it really is a case of you can't please them all.
Great reviews, I was intrigued by every blogger saying how amazing Caudalie beauty elixir was, I do still want to try it but it's pricey for water in a bottle!
ReplyDeleteThank you :) yeah I do think it is over priced especially when the likes of the body shop etc do similar products for a fraction of the price!
DeleteHi, firstly, I love your blog! Also, this post is really helpful as I was thinking of buying the Rimmel mascara and I don't think I will now as my eyes are quite sensitive too so I don't think it will bode well with me. Thank you for sharing your opinions! :)

I really want to try the chanel powder and nail polish!

Can anyone advise a good night street mascara for contact lenses please? I am really struggling!!
ReplyDeleteCharlene xx
Sorry meant high street xx
ReplyDeleteI had serious mascara disappointment with this one too but because of the wand head....far too big & ended up all over my eyelids every time I used it! Went back to L'Oreal!

I agree so much, i hate the chanel powder and that mascara xooxx

Amazing post. I completely agree on Rimmel Scandaleyes, and the Caudalie review was extremely interesting! xxo
ReplyDeletetheedgeofbeauty7.com
I agree with the scandal eyes mascara, i thought it was completely dreadful, just made my lashes clumpy and thick! :)
ReplyDeletelaurenlovesmakeupxoxo.blogspot.co.uk
I always get a blob of mascara from the 'scandaleyes' on my nose because the brush head is so big like you said haha! I haven't had any irritation from the formula though, but maybe it depends on your eyes.
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried that Barry M polish yet, I don't know what to think of it, it looks weird haha. xo
Shabby Chic and Tea♥
I haven't noticed that about the Scandaleyes, which is weird because I normally have really sensitive eyes. The large brush was kind of a plus for me, but everyone else I know feels the same. Thanks for the post about all this :) xx
ReplyDeletehaley-wood.blogspot.com
feels the same as you, I meant
DeleteI completely agree with you on the Caudalie Beauty Elixir, it's nothing but a refreshing mist :P.
ReplyDeleteI tried the Caudalie several years ago and was so disappointed. At the time Caudalie was the hot new brand and everyone was raving about the mist. It was pretty spendy even then and I remember using it and waiting to open my eyes to a somehow massively transformed me. Didn't happen!! ; )
ReplyDeleteI don't get on with Bioderma, it stings my eyes and face whenever I use it! I think I will skip the Caudalie Elixir now. Great post:)
ReplyDeleteWow I was also considering the Chanel powder! I'm in agreement with you on the mascara, I hated it but I liked the green tube one ok, it wasn't amazing but a Much softer formula.
ReplyDeleteI went to the Clarins counter to check out the BB cream after reading so many positive reviews. When I got there the S.A. looked at me and said I should give up on that BB cream dream as I was too light, lol. Honestly, that's the first time I haven't even suited the lightest shade in a range. Bummer, but I'm glad I'm not alone!
ReplyDeleteJillicious Cosmetics
I'm so glad I read this I was going to get the Chanel powder but I trust your opinion entirely.

Hey! Great post- good to know what's not working! My biggest beauty let down has to be Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream! I know- I know! Readers are probably screaming at the screen right now! I was expecting a creamy luxurious delight not a herby vasaline! Still have never got on with it! However I must say I love the Caudalie Beauty Elixir- if only for the smell of the lovely oils! I've never heard that it can be used as a make up remover (also how can it set your make up & remove?) but am not surprised it fails at this! So lovely on a hot day or when you're dried out by AC.
ReplyDeleteAlso ALL Max Factor mascara's irritate my eyes which is such a shame as they're good :(
That's my 2p worth!

Ahh! make up lusting! I want to try ALL of these products so bad! I have tried the Caudalie spray and loved it, but I want to try the mascara!

I love honest post like that!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about Chanel, the packaging is great but sometimes it's really hard to get enough pigment on the brush!!!
ReplyDeleteLoved this post, please keep it up!
I'd love it if you took at my London beauty blog! http://bit.ly/15vu9J2
Very good and usable post. Thank's to share your experience with us. I will try to remember these tips in my blog commenting task.
