Look Beauty have recently launched an array of Fat Lips pencils which are of course chubby sticks of lip colour that promise to not only deliver a tint to the lips but a high sheen finish coupled with a moisturising formula. With five shades could they rival the now infamous Clinique Chubby Sticks?
As you can see like most lip crayons the Fat Lips are of course chubby in style and to my eye very familiar in style to a few other lip crayons out there - Google Revlon's Just Bitten version and you have two almost identical packaging styles. In fact the packaging is identical to MUA's chubby lip offering - The MUA Power Pout's! Anyway similarities to other products aside Look Beauty Fat Lips feature a twist up mechanism at the base of the product so you never need to sharpen or waste any of the product housed inside.
At the moment there are five shades available of Look Beauty's Fat Lips two of which I have to share:
Frenchie - As soon as I applied this I knew that the Look Beauty Fat lips are in fact just the MUA Power Pouts re-packaged as the shade, formula, scent and packaging are identical. Don't believe me check out my review of MUA's Power Point in Rendezvous here and tell me it is not identical to Frenchie - review link. For the moment let's cast that aside, Frenchie appears to be nude in bullet form but applies far more pink - a great everyday shade.
Smooch - Unlike Frenchie this does not appear to have a sister shade in the MUA line. Smooch is a bright pink that pulls rather blue once applied and is very similar to MAC's Girl About Town (it is more intense in person) only glossier and of course kinder on the pocket.
Like I mentioned above the formula is identical to those by MUA and not by accident either as both companies are owned by the same person and of course privy to the same supplier and factory.
The Look Beauty Fat Lips Lip Stains are similar to the Clinique Chubby Sticks Intense - a firm but well pigmented lip product that offers great colour pay off with a high sheen opaque finish.
Essentially it is more of a lipstick than a lip tint and as a result I am a little confused as to why they are being marketed as tints as the coverage is so much better.
What I won't disagree with is the balm element, the Look Beauty Fat Lips glide on to the lips with ease and instantly deliver a dose of hydration which keeps the lips moisturised throughout the course of wear. However with a highly hydrating formula comes a shortened wear time with each application only fairing around the hour mark but all things considered: formula, colour, hydration and price they are a wonderful little buy that is only slightly marred by the fact that they are essentially the MUA Power Pouts repackaged with a £3 price hike.
As a word of friendly advice I would check out the MUA Power Pouts before purchasing any of the Look Beauty Fat Lips as some of the shades are identical but with a different name slapped on the product and a £3 price mark up.

Random Fact - During the Middle Ages, the popularity of lipstick declined. In that era, lipstick was considered to be a cosmetic which is suitable for prostitutes and lower class women.
These look good! I need to check out the MUA ones too.

Shame these are the same as the MUA ones, Look Beauty have some brilliant products so this is a let down. Thanks for the review :)
ReplyDeleteI am loving the lip crayons at the moment and have been obsessed since the Revlon ones came out. I shall def take a look at these and the MUA ones. I actually saw that No. 7 had bought out some too. Limited shade range mind you, but having swatched them in store they are pretty stunning none the less, downside is they are £9 a punch, but I am guessing with a voucher they will be well worth it.

They are very similar to make up academys power pout probably down to them having the same owner lol. Makes you wonder whether they come from same factory etc. Especially when their different prices. Xx
ReplyDeleteThere's so many of these coming out! I think these will be a miss x
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I read this as I bought a couple of the Mua Power Pouts and was keen to compare them to the Look ones- may give them a miss now as I don't want to buy the same product twice over (and for a lot more money!) xx
