No I haven't had a baby nor am I pregnant which is what I know most people associate Bio-Oil with,
although I have heard that it is a complete wonder product for stretch marks so if any of you are with child it may be worth investigating.
So what have I been using Bio-Oil for?
Plain and simple to reduce the appearance of acne scarring on my shoulders and back...gross I know but sharing is caring and with summer on its way I don't really think there is a better time to get the ball rolling.
When the sun is in the sky all I want to do is pull on a maxi dress and sip something cooling with the best of them without worrying about scars which can get you down if you let it. Well this summer I refuse to be self conscious of something that was outwith my control and have been rather vigilant with Bio-Oil in the hope of fading said scars beyond recognition.
Bio-Oil as many will know is a dry oil which essentially means it applies like a slightly greasy liquid but as soon as you begin to massage in into the sky it quickly absorbs without any trace of residue which is simply brilliant for all those like myself who aren't the biggest fans of oil products. According to the Bio-Oil site Bio-Oil can be best described as - "a combination of plant extracts and vitamins suspended in an oil base. It contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil™, which changes the formulation’s overall consistency, making it light and non-greasy".
Scent wise there is not much to really say it is quite floral thanks to the additions of Lavender, Rosemary and Chamomile oil which is pleasant enough. As well as being probably the best budget product for fading scars and stretch marks Bio-Oil is highly moisturising, if you have dry skin you can try adding a drop or two to your usual moisturiser for a quick hydration boost or for a quick and easy fix for dry skin on the body add to a warm bath. Really it's up to you how you use it but at the moment I have been simply applying Bio-Oil to the scarring on my shoulders after bathing and massaging in. Over the space of a month I have noticed that my scars have went from a bright, angry red to a paler pink that is still somewhat noticeable but still quite an improvement. I do have a long way to go but feel positive that come June/July the scarring should be faint and ready to be bared come the warmer weather for less than £10 I can not rate it highly enough.
Have you tried Bio-Oil?

Edit - As Jennifer below rightly pointed out a little does go a long, long way. I have the smallest bottle which I have used twice a day for the last month and have still over 70% left!

I love bio-oil! It really has improved my scars. A little goes a long way so it last for ages. I just wish they came up with better packaging as the oil somehow manages to get all over the bottle x
ReplyDeleteA great post, never know whether to get some - will be popping into Boots tomorrow to get some!
ReplyDeleteI have no wish to remove my baby bearing marks but i too would like to get rid of the nasty acne scars on my upper arms. I shall be trying this for sure!

I'm using it now! But it's not working...I think it's because I'm trying to fade old scaring. I've been using it for a while now, albeit not twice a day like it says. I find the smell slightly minty too but perhaps that's just me.
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea to add it to moisturiser!!
ReplyDeleteI've heard amazing things from this product, must give it a go I'm sick of not being able to wear backless dresses!

I do like bio oil but I've found pure coconut oil so much more effective at calming my acne scars as it's an natural antiseptic! Plus it smells lush xx
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried Bio-oil but just thought I'd let you know that they are selling it in Primark at the moment - saw it yesterday for about £6

My sister used this when she was pregnant so I'd often steal it from her and it really helps with scars! Although I didn't like the consistency but you've reminded me to buy another one of these!
ReplyDeleteIt would mean so much to me if you guys would check my blog out and maybe even follow? :DD

I used this when I had awful red stretch marks on my hips and boobs when I was 16 that really made me lose my confidence. I bought this and used it every day for 3 months and the stretch marks on my boobs were gone, although it just faded the ones on my hips to white. I can't recommend it enough! I'm 8 months pregnant at the moment and I haven't used any yet as I have yet to gain any stretch marks (although I'm sure they'll come!)It's brilliant and a little bit really does go a long way :-)x

They have this in Primark at the moment! Seriously! Plus, try out Rescue Oil too, which I actually prefer as it is based with peach kernel oil and no mineral oil x
ReplyDeleteI purchased it today after years of wondering - will see how it goes!

(awesome skin peels for home use!)
I purchased my bottle yesterday used it for the first time today, will see if it works or not. when I applied it this morning I felt a tingly sensation moments later, perhaps that is how it works? For what its worth I hope it does work, I do not trust anything else that is on the market xx
ReplyDeleteI just did a little wee.
ReplyDeleteI used it for 3 months regularly and no changes. This product is just a waste of time and money
ReplyDeleteI have been using bio oil for the past 5 years and it works amazing. Now that im pregnant i have little signs of stretched marks because i started back using bio oil instead of cocoa butter.
