If like myself you are more than a little tried of BB Creams and perhaps groaned a little at the recent onslaught of CC Creams, you may want to take that groan back as I can promise that Clinique's CC Cream is a force to be reckoned with!
Like I said I had no high hopes what so ever for the new CC Creams which undoubtedly every brand under the sun will produce in the coming months but after what is now a week of trialing Clinique's CC Cream I am utterly hooked.
So what exactly is a CC Cream? CC stands for Colour Correct or as some may have put it Colour Control, Complexion Corrector - either way the formula has been created to provide an even but natural looking base. Very much like a BB cream they also boast skincare properties such as SPF protection, hydration and on the whole tend to offer more of a sheer coverage (I'd say Clinque's version is closer to moderate to full coverage). The selling point of CC Creams is that due to the added benefit of colour-correcting technology they can help to visually improve uneven skin tones without the need of a heavy or oily texture. Cliniques CC Cream aims to be one of the most hydrating on the market with the inclusion of the wonder ingredient that is hyaluronic acid, Clinique's oil free formula hydrate, protect and perfects in one quick and easy step.
I know what you are thinking how does this work on oily skin that I have been cursed with?
Surprisingly well oddly, okay first things first Clinique's CC Cream is a little thicker and more akin in terms of texture to a full coverage cream based foundation than anything else. However it works in pretty well with next to no work - I tend to use my fingertips for application and most importantly doesn't feel greasy or heavy on the skin. Yes the formula is pretty hydrating and for that reason alone it will be nothing short of a dream product for drier skins particularly come the summer months (I personally would still use a moisturiser underneath), for us that are oily rest assure it works equally well as long as you are prepared to set with powder.
In terms of coverage it is phenomenal it offers a great mid to high coverage base that doesn't completely mask the skin nor does it feel heavy but it will correct and cover most imperfections such as my acne scars.
I would say this settles to a natural matte finish, not dewy but not completely matte either - a happy middle ground.

What I really adore about Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream is that not only does it do all it says on the tin (corrects, conceals and hydrates) but it has an added SPF 30 which is pretty rare in cosmetic products and comes in six shades, which again is pretty rare for a product of this nature.
For refrence I have shade Medium Light which is a good natural match for my natural skin tone - around NC35 but do pop in store and get colour matched as I do find Clinique bases to run a little dark.
In terms of wear once set with powder I found Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream to wear for around 8 hours verging on the 9 hour mark before my skin got the better of it.
If you buy one summer base this year let it be Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream!
Clinique Moisture Surge CC Cream SPF 30* will launch on the 26th of April and retail for £28/30ml
* Product sent for consideration.
Sounds WOW - want!! Great coverage, non drying, non cakey - dream skin base perhaps!!

CC creams have really confused me lately so I enjoyed reading this and finding a bit more about it. I might try this to be honest as I don't particularly like my skin simply because of my acne scars, but I hate wearing foundation daily.

Wow, something that actually sounds decent in the western BB/CC market (though I've never tried a CC cream of any type but our BB creams have left me sceptical to say the least of this new trend). I might try this out, since I've been looking for a new base.

I love Clinique's regular Moisture Surge products. I wonder if it feels like the moisturizer does- sort of a gel like moisturizer? I can't wait to try it! Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeletewow this sounds great, I tend to steer clear of BB/CC creams because they don't usually provide the coverage i'd like but i'll definitely be giving this one a go, thanks!x
ReplyDeleteI have oily skin so i tend to stay away from any hydrating cosmetic products~ I love how alot of brands are coming out with the new CC creams and i have yet to choose one to try out. Clinique is a brand that i can always count on having good products so when im next out, im gna test these out and see whether i like the texture of them :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for reviewing!
Hope you have a lovely day <3

I'd love to try this. I've been loving BB creams and tinted moisturisers so this is definitely one to add to the 'to try' list.

I hope they have one that would match my skin! The BB cream fad was such a disappointment for me as most companies didn't do shades dark enough even though they were labelled as 'medium' or 'dark'. 6 shades for this one, and it's CC not BB? Sounds promising! Great review (as usual) x
ReplyDeleteI'm not a massive bb cream fan, and this seems a lot better, roll on the CC creams!

I'm so excited for this, I can't wait to get my hands on it! I'm hoping it'll give me a really even look without being heavy like some full coverage foundations.
