A few nights ago I was lucky enough to attend Benefit's Glasgow pre-launch event for the impending Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Concealer which will be on counters and online from the end of March, I've been told the 31st but that is a Sunday so I imagine the 29th is probably more apt.

So yes a new concealer from Benefit which comes sleekly packaged in the most shiny silver chrome tubes I have seen in a long while and is beautifully embossed with pretty pink scrolls all over.
It's almost too pretty to be a concealing product isn't it?

I know what you are thinking what makes Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Concealer any different from the multiple concealing products already on the market and to that I say good question and here is why!
Unlike other concealers Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Concealer is a essentially a two in one product - a hydrating shell of moisturising balm which includes skin smoothing and plumping ingredients such as Vitamin E (the wonder vitamin that helps prevent aging) and Apple Seed Extract which helps to brighten dull skin. Then right in the center you have your concealing pigment which is of course used to disguise any minor skin flaw.

Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Concealer is available in three shades but I do have to state that they run fairly light which will suit most people's needs as most of us do plump for a shade or two lighter when it comes to under eye concealer to lift and brighten the area but I do feel deep skin tones will struggle with the shade selection. For reference I am approximately an NC37/40 in MAC foundation and use the shade medium for my under eyes but the deep shade is not all that much darker than my skin tone.

So how does it preform? Well initially I found Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Concealer to be a little slippery and I wasn't convinced that I wanted it on my face but trust me when I say that it is a complete wonder product for the under eyes. I don't have much luck with concealing my dark circles, I find most concealers crease under my eye really quickly - i'm talking before I have even finished my make-up...lightening quick but as this is a hydrating balm come concealer I don't have that problem at all.
Once applied, blended and set it stays in place and doesn't crease until around the 8 hour mark which is pretty good going considering I seem to be queen of the oily skin brigade.
Speaking of blending thanks to the hydrating core you really don't have to work this product into the skin,
it sinks in beautifully by itself and feels light and almost gel like...a really lovely texture for the delicate under eye area.

The coverage of Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Concealer is on the sheerer side, great for the likes of dark circles and generally brightening the under eye area but not really all that wonderful on blemishes in my opinion. However if you struggle finding a good contour shade I have seen many use the Deep shade on fair skin for a subtle cheek bone chiseling aid and I have to say the results are impressive. As the formula is sheer it blends wonderfully so the result is natural looking supermodel-esque cheekbones not "I've been watching too many bad 80's pop videos".

Summed up I adore Benefit Fake Up Hydrating Concealer for the under eye area and urge anyone who has diffiuclties with such area to test it out as soon as it launches!
