You'd be forgiven for thinking I am a little late on posting this review as it was the box that was themed for the festive period but it only landed on my doorstep a little over a week ago.
Like most I am new to Betrousee but not the sample box concept, in fact I am a little tired of sample boxes these days. So why make an exception?
The allure of £97 worth of products for £19 was a little too hard to resist...I'm weak, sue me!
Let's take a little look at what was inside this bumper beauty box shall we?
Charme d’Orient Relaxing Body Cream £16 (some may receive a massage oil by the same brand)
Since converting to body oils I haven't reached for body lotions or body creams recently.
Although a gorgeous thick and creamy textured product it has a rather distinct and odd scent - plastic? Unless mine has of course turned which would just be my luck.
Saffron London Black Crackle Nail Polish 75p
Truthfully I haven't and won't be trying this out, I am beyond over crackle polishes
and have no desire to ever use this but don't let the tiny retail price of Saffron polishes fool you!
I have tried a few glitter shades by Saffron over the year and they are on par with any high street brand.
Skinetica £9.99
This is a product that has cropped up in a few beauty boxes over the last few years but unlike other boxes the version that comes in the Betrousse box is in fact full sized!
I use Skinetica on and off to help dry out any troublesome blemishes, in a nut shell it is a mild astringent
and is great to have on hand for those monstrous blemishes that appear from nowhere!
Forte Pharma Turbo Slim Chrono Activ £29.95
I hate to be that guy but I'm not really comfortable with diet pills albeit it natural ones included within a beauty box, detoxing products I get but including a product that is aimed at weight loss doesn't really sit well with me. As there is no customisation option for the box (everyone gets the same items minus the oil/body cream) those who have need (or really shouldn't be taking these under 16's with their growing bodies) will receive them and I have to admit I find this inclusion a little irresponsible. Gah I hate being that guy!
Soins Experts Hydra Expert Cream £34
This moisturiser reminds me from the packaging to the contents of Elemis products.
Although not suited to my skin type (it is a little rich in formula) it looks to be a good daily moisturising cream for drier skin types and has a lovely thick but quickly absorbed formula.
Betrousse Tattoo by Tattyoo £5
A small collection of specially designed temporary tattoos that are exclusive to this beauty box.
Admittedly not really my thing and I don't imagine they will be for the vast majority of subscribers either.
This is where the box confused me, on the whole it seems that the contents are refined and not really tacky then boom we have these? Perhaps it is for a little light relief but either way I could have done without them.
Montagne Jeunesse Dead Sea Mud Spa Face Mask £1.49
I really enjoy Montage Jeunesse products but annoyingly I am allergic to clay (clay, Daz washing powder and Cocoa Butter) so I didn't get the chance to test this out but I did pass it on to my younger sister who stated that although a little messy it cleansed deeply and left her skin glowing. Not bad for £1.49.
Like most sample boxes there is bound to be a few products that each individual will not like
but what allows Betrousse to stand out from the other beauty sample boxes out there is that each product is full size. Diet pills and temporary tattoo's aside I think this is a pretty decent box £19 for £97 worth of products isn't bad going at all and along the way you do get to try out lesser known brands which I do enjoy.
You can purchase the Betrousse Beauty Box* here for £19 excluding p&p - link
This beauty box looks good!

you should be "that guy" as far as the diet pills are concerned, if I was a parent and had allowed my daughter to get this box and seen those in there would be hell to pay, they shouldnt be encouraging the view that beauty is the super skinny dieting girls, especially not where a company has potentially impressionable, and as you said, still growing customers. If it was me Id complain to them directly also. My full respect for being "that guy"!
ReplyDeleteThank you :) sometimes I worry that I am a little too critical so I'm glad i'm not the only one to find it not only a bizarre inclusion but also irresponsible! I agree all body shapes should be celebrated and not nudged into changing unless health is an issue.
Deleteagree entirely, I know too many girls who have gotten too ill from "im not skinny enough / im not beautiful enough" when really body shape should be celebrated, could you imagine how boring the world would be if everyone was the exact same shape! (would make clothes shopping easier but zz) staying healthy is one thing but a beauty box including (and by doing so actively encouraging) the use of dietary pills is irresponsible at best, and potentially dangerous!
DeleteTotally agree about the pills, for definite, its rather irresponsible!
ReplyDeleteThank you :) like I said above I do sometimes worry that I look into things too much/seriously so i'm glad others agree!
DeleteSeems like an all right box but the diet pills are a big no no from me. What happened to encouraging self confidence and being a healthy person?

Agreed 100%, the box on the whole is really great and wonderful value for money but the diet pills really don't sit well with me at all!
DeleteThe crackle nail polish looks great! xxx

My thoughts were exactly the same as yours in my post. My granny has been trying out the moisturiser though and her skin looks fab.

Hah, I must have completely overslept this one. Betrousse what? Looks like a good box, but I agree with you on the sticker tattoos (tacky) and the diet pills. Some people might not realise that there are in fact women out there who don't need to lose weight (shock, horror!!).
ReplyDeletethat was a great review, I was surprised to see the tattoos, it just oozes tacky! x

Wow. That's awful that they would even think to include diet pills. You should have no qualms about being that guy! It's a beauty box, who are they to say that anyone needs to lose weight to feel beautiful and that's before you even consider who they could have ended up being sent to!
ReplyDeleteYou dont have to be thin to be beautiful so why they decided to put them in a beauty box is beyond me. I wouldnt touch diet pills with a barge pole.x
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I can't say this box seems like much. Great post, however! And I couldn't agree more about the slimming pills. Well done to you for being "that guy", I think it definitely needs to be said that including that type of product is irresponsible. Many young girls could be receiving this box and it is unhealthy for them as well as dangerous. Plus, taking any type of pill can be dangerous to anyone, everyone is in charge of whatever they take themselves as many people react differently to any sort of medication or pill. xx
ReplyDeleteI really can't believe they included diet bills in a beauty box! That is frankly ridiculous, this would be a good box if it wasn't for those, definitely won't be picking up this box!
