Twitter is an encyclopaedia of information, it is always bustling with up to the minute news
and an opinion or twelve with that in mind I took to Twitter and asked what is everyone's overrated
beauty products. I have to admit that I was a little shocked to see some of my favourite products
being bashed but that's the thing with cosmetics one (wo)man's trash is another's treasure.
it seems to be the mint green nail choice of many a beauty addict and although there is no denying that the
shade is something special and hard to dupe (I tried) the formula is terrible, it streaks, chips
and considering it's price point it's safe to say I won't be repurchasing!
Now on to what you said...
YSL Touche Eclat, doesn't cover or illuminate. Just watery and expensive and much cheaper better copycats out – Julie @flabbyface
Touch eclat!! There are so many better concealers out there!! :) xx - The Pampered Sparrow @PamperedSparrow
Garnier BB Cream - I saw everyone raving about it on their blogs so caved in to the hype, only to be totally disappointed. – Bex @OhNoItsBex
Estee Lauder BB cream and BB Creams in general really – not lived up to the hype for me! – Jen @Jen__La
Revlon lip butters, they're OK but soooo overrated, so is the Bourjois One Second pot thing! (Magic Nail Polish Remover) - Laura @callofbeautyB
Chanel Perfection Lumiere, impossible to blend, highlights open pores, dryness makes skin greasy and costs a small fortune – Julie @flabbyface
Chanel vitalumiere aqua is so overratted! I prefer the vitalumiere, much nicer x – Chacharoo @cha2908
For moi it's Chanel polish. It gives me wrinkles with rage that I then have to buy cream to counteract *shakes fist* - Cherry Sue @ItsCherrySue
For moi it's Chanel polish. It gives me wrinkles with rage that I then have to buy cream to counteract *shakes fist* - Cherry Sue @ItsCherrySue
Maybelline great lash mascara. Not great. Just average! :) xx - The Pampered Sparrow @PamperedSparrow
Caudalie's Beauty Elixir, Clinique 3 Step System, Touché Éclat and that Maybelline mascara! – Hafsa Issa-Salwe @muslimahb
That Garnier under-eye roll-on thing....found it sticky and it stung a bit! x - Emma @thestylebox
Definitely the clarisonic, it made my skin much worse! - Beauty Aesthetic @lisaandsami
Liz earl cleanse n polish broke me out big time x – Hailey B @haileysbeauty
I'm gonna be hated but liz Earle, I wanted to love it but it broke me out (after everyone saying it cleared up their skin) – Smoking Peaches @smokingpeaches
I'd also have to agree with people tweeting about Cleanse & Polish! Really irritated my skin and made it greasy! Xx. – Kayleigh @k_leexjx
Liz Earle C+P made my skin the worst it's ever been! Also, UDPP (Urban Decay Primer Potion) made my eyeshadow crease. E.l.f's is a million times better! – Amy @flawsandallblog
Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish! Broke me out and did nothing for my dry skin.. So overrated! Xxx – Nichole @Coleyyyful
NARS Orgasm! I didn't find this very pigmented and the colour didn't show up on my cheeks! Don't get the hype at all!! Xx. - Kayleigh @K_leexjx
Rimmel - wake me up foundation. There was a massive hype around this product, I didn't think it met expectations. – Alyse @allyx
The Rimmel wake me up foundation - hated the finish and the glittery effect, and terrible range of shades! – Gillian @elevatormusik

Caudalie beauty elixir! Didn't find it did anything special to me! – Amelia @LianaBeautyBlog
Caudalie Elixir Spray – Megan @megan220211997
Benefit Bad Gal mascara! – Itzi @Itzi86

All benefit make up,so rubbish. And Chanel eyeshadows,I was lured by the brand/packaging but the pigment is crap! – Natasha @natash_n
Benefit Hervana - yes it's a lovely colour, but does not stay put, would expect more for the price! – Simply Daisy Bell @DasiybelleBlog

Mac Studio Fix Foundation, hello dry patches I didn’t even know I had! – Kelly Marie @andpeaches
Hi, mine would be Mac Fix +..soo useless – Daniella @A_T_G_N_W_T
Mac studio fix fluid, lush ballistics (nothing compared to bubble bars), mac 224 blending brush (sff irritated skin, 224 hideously scratchy), soap & glory foot cream (did bug all) x – Emma @emmabeans
I’d say Fix+ Just fancy water, does nothing for me! Also benefit makeup in general, too overpriced, esp with cardboard packaging – Gill @makeupthenight
Most overrated? MAC Matchmaster foundation. I liked it at first, cos I was in MAC-love mode. It's too thick/hard to blend x – Sophia @TattooedTeaLady
Nars Turkish Delight lip gloss!!! – Max @LittleMissMaxi
Great idea! Origins super spot remover, didn't work at all for me, if anything made my break out worse! – Zoe @Zoebxo
Nails Inc Magnetic polish - just ended up being a complete and utter mess! – Fash-ling @AislingNM
And for a little light relief…
Not strictly a reply, an anecdote. My other half isn't into products. Ages after buying him a nice set he complained said the moisturiser was rubbish & actually made his skin feel tight and dry??? Was only when I looked closely at his face that I was able to tell him he'd been vigorously rubbing in exfoliator! *sigh*
What made it worse was that we were on a train platform when he decided to finally mention it! en route for a full day out - the clown. I had to start getting the bits off his face.Doesn't help that I'm short sighted! – LadySG @LadySG
Which brings me to next weeks question “What is the one beauty product you can not live without?"
Tweet me your stories @TheSundayGirlUK and use the tag #SGTwitTalk, I will publish them all next week!
Brilliant post! Such a good idea.
ReplyDeleteI'm nodding to so many of everyone's opinions. Some i didn't even think of but agree with.

ReplyDeleteThank you :) me too it helps when shopping haha!
Deleteamazing post! very interesting x
ReplyDeleteThank you :) it is isn't it I love hearing peoples hates!
DeleteSuch a great post idea! I think sometimes it's nice to see that many of these products aren't worth the hype, sometimes I think people are too scared to say a product is a bit pants if everybody else in the blogging world appears to like it! x
ReplyDeleteI completely agree I love when people go against the norm and tell truthfully how they feel!
DeleteBrilliant post! I agree with some of them but I think it depends on each person's individual preference as to whether they like a particular product or not.
ReplyDeletexx
Oh I agree some products that have been mentioned are actually my fav's but hey ho we can't all love everything :)
DeleteStarted agreeing as i started scrolling but theres some i definitely don't agree with namely being the garnier and liz earle products!
ReplyDeletehttp://studsanddreams.blogspot.co.uk/
I've never tried the Garnier roll on but Liz Earle is a little hit n miss with my skin type :)
DeleteVery nice post!! I love this type of sharing! thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks so glad you enjoyed it :)
Deleteinterresting! I like a few of these products actually, it really is a question of taste, skin, etc.!
ReplyDeleteSo true :) I think that's why I love the beauty community so much as we are all so diverse :)
DeleteGreat idea for a post! I agree about the Benefit products - so gimmicky and bad quality for the price xxx
ReplyDeletegeorgiasmakeupaddiction.blogspot.com
Thank you :) ah really I'm a HUGEEE Benefit fan but I respect that others don't...be boring if we all loved the same things wouldn't it :)
DeleteLove this post! You have some great post ideas ha :) xox
ReplyDeleteLOL the anecdote was hilarious!
ReplyDeleteHaha it had me chuckling too!
DeleteThis is such a brilliant idea! I agree with some of those too. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you :) that makes two of us :)
DeleteI love this! Too often I read about miracle products that do all the things and makes everything wonderful only to be let down terribly. One thing I love about blogs/twitter is when I get honest reviews on products, but think sometimes its very easy to get caught up in the hype! x
ReplyDeleteLOVE this, can't help but nod and agree with everyone in this post. What a brilliant idea too! XO
ReplyDeleteLoved this post! I agree with most things- but not Essie Mint Candy Apple! I love that stuff.
ReplyDeleteOoh and spotted me too :)

Brilliant post - thanks for including me!
ReplyDeleteFutures: Lifestyle, Beauty & Fashion
So gutted to see you don't get on with Mint Candy Apple. I love it so much! Perhaps the formulas are hit and miss as mine lasts quite a good while. Thanks for including me :) x
ReplyDeleteLove this post! Although it definitely goes to show that some products work for others when some don't, I love the Estee Lauder BB cream!! but most of these I agree with actually! rimmel wake me up foundation, MAC studio fix foundation, the NARS turkish delight lipgloss were some of the worst offenders for me! x
ReplyDeleteSuch a funny post! I am always influenced by what vloggers/bloggers say and I end up getting different products recommended. I do agree some of them are overrated.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Benefit is a bit overrated but I do love Revlon lip butter :)I have got Liz Earle due to the hype but I havent tried it yet. Hopefully it wont break me out!
This post was brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThe bit about your boyfriend made me laugh at the end! Sounds like something from 'men over heard'.
x
it was fun reading that comments - love the anecdote - can sympathize with the girl has my better half has similar issues :D
ReplyDeletehttp://sweetandbitterblog.blogpsot.com
I respectfully disagree with a few of these. I'm a big fan of Great Lash as an 'every day' mascara - it doesn't make you look like a drag queen, but it doesn't promise to either... I also love Chanel nail polish - it's lush and easy to apply. Orgasm is my favourite blush, but the lipgloss is a bit lame. Also, the Clarisonic Mia is really amazing on my skin, but I suppose it depends on the skin type and whether the person is using the right brush - I have to use the sensitive one. Great food for thought though - good post!!! x
ReplyDeleteReally interesting post. I do love Revlon lip butters, Urban Decay primer potion, Mac studio fix foundation, Garnier under-eye roll-on and Benefit Porefessional but i do agree with Mac Fix +, Maybelline mascaras and BB creams.
ReplyDeleteI guess it just shows how everyone's needs and skin types are different.
