As part of my 2012 personal resolutions I aimed to always look groomed and as I have oily lids I need a really good multi purpose eyeshadow base, one that will go with the majority of eyeshadow shades and formulas I own. So when shopping today I settled on Mac Painterly as it is a favourite of so many - including Kim Kardashian I figured I could do a lot worse.
Like all MAC products the packaging is sleek and simple, with the famous MAC font embossed on the side of the container.The jar itself has a screw top function lid and is constructed of glass,
which admittedly is not the most travel friendly but it can survive a bump or two. Please ensure you always keep the lid on the paint pots as they have a tendency to dry out.
So what do you use a MAC paint pot for? A paint pot is a cream based multi purpose cosmetic item.
Well it can be used in a multitude of ways some dependant on the shade and formula. Paint pots can be used as a base to lay another product on top, which will intensive the shade and prolong the wear
or as an individual wash of colour on the lids.You can also utilize it as an eyeliner or a highlighting product dependant on the shade you purchase.
MAC Painterly is a medium yellow toned flesh shade, it has a slight grey undertone and is matte in formula. If you are looking for a light matte shade as a base but find white a little stark then this may be the shade you are looking for. The formula of these are slightly hard at first but once warmed up by the fingertips they soften. MAC Painterly applies opaque and evenly, once dry I find them to last throughout a full 8 hour day. Although opaque in the swatch these do blend out fairly sheer. They fair even better if they are set with a powder eyeshadow on top. They are comfortable to wear and do prolong the wear of any powder product. MAC Painterly Paint Pot may also help disguise any veins on the lids too which may be helpful to some.

DeleteI've got it and also Soft Ochre and I think Painterly has a pinker tone and Soft Ochre a yellower one in comparison.
ReplyDeletePaintpots blend out sheer, but you can put more than one layer letting dry each one. If you have oily lids, maybe it's better to avoid that...
To prevent them to dry out, store them upside down ;)
Ah that's good to know I wasn't able to see Soft Ochre in store has it wasn't in stock but never mind :) I agree to many layers and oily skin...fail x

DeleteI LOVE LOVE LOVE this and I didnt use it under my eyeshadow the other day and it all creased :/ Amazing colour as yours eyes but better and amazing base. I have Rubenesque and Blackground. All fabulous but Painterly is worn the most as can vary shadows!

I agree you don't realise how much you rely on a base until you go without one! I have rubenesque and love it :) I may try blackground as it could double up as a liner at a push :) x

Hi! Just recently discovered your blog and am really enjoying it. I love this paintpot. I have oily lids and they are dark. So I use Painterly as a base to help eyeshadow stay true to color. But it doesn't prevent creasing for me, so I use Nars' eyelid primer. It's the only eyelid primer that I have found to work with the skin on my eyelids.
