Being a massive fan of the original Healthy Mix foundations I just had to test the newer version. I had seen countless reviews of the newer version from various blogs further afield in Europe and really was intrigued to see if it would better the original formula.
I hate to begin a review on a negative note...but I must have tried every Boots and Superdrug in Glasgow to find this in shades darker than shade 52. After much avail I relented and bought the darkest shade I can source which of course is shade 52. I have seen it goes up to shade 53 but I couldn't lay hands on it! I am by no means a dark skinned lady so if you are darker than I, I wish you luck on finding a suitable shade. Shade 52 is around the NC25ish mark, just a little too light for my skintone. One thing I have noticed is that serum version runs cool in tone with a slight grey/green undertone, where as the original Healthy Mix leaned warm with golden undertones. If you are cool toned I recommend the serum, warm tones I think you'll find the original version more suited.
Compared to the first version of Healthy Mix I would deem this much lighter in formula, it is quite a loose liquid and almost watery as you can imagine the coverage is not full. It does feel extremely light on the skin and it buffs and blends in with ease. One pump of the liquid is more than suffice to cover an entire face. I liken it more to a tinted moisturiser opposed to a foundation,
it evens out the skin tone and brightens up the complexion however it will not mask faults such as scarring or any other type of facial marking. The claims are that this foundation will boost radiance and that is exactly what it does, it adds a little hint of colour to the skin and will help dull skin look a little more vibrant. Bourjois state that the finish is semi- matte and I completely agree, it provides a shine free base without masking or caking the skin.
Like it's elder sister this does have a slight fruity scent, I personally like the scent of the Bourjois foundations but if you have a sensitive nose/skin I do suggest you test this in store but I never notice the scent once it is applied to the face. The bottle has the illusion of glass but rest assure it is plastic so it won't shatter in a handbag etc. It also comes with a handy built in pump function which makes dispensing the foundation a breeze and prevents waste and or spillage of product!
Bourjois claim that this will last up 16hours but in my experience I found that the foundation fell flat of such claim.I applied a light buffing of the Healthy Mix serum at 9am , (without a primer and I did not set with powder as I deem this to be circumstantial and if that is what is required to prolong the wear then the bottle should clearly state so) and by 2pm the foundation had all but gone so 16 hours is a little optimistic. I'm sure it would fair better if a primer and powder was used and it didn't have to battle my oily skin.
All in all I have to admit I prefer the original healthy mix, the shade range is more vast and the coverage and lasting power is superior. I wouldn't completely write this foundation off but I don't recommend this is you are a fan of full coverage or if you have medium to dark skin but if you are pale and only require a light foundation it is well worth trying out.

ReplyDeleteAhh I'm glad you did a review on this cuz I've been wanting to try it :) On another note, where did you get the lychees? I'm a bit of a lychee woman.
ReplyDelete@make-up meoww - I know, it's a tad annoying i'm hoping that new shades will arrive on the UK shores soon :) x
ReplyDelete@Lisahh-Jane - Tell me about it! If a shade suits you I say go for it :) x
@Yu - Haha how random :) but I got a huge punnet from Asda :) x
I think I'll stick with the original healthy mix, although I have yet to try it out. It's been on my wishlist for like forever, just never got round to buying it.
ReplyDeleteGreat review :)

ReplyDelete@SoNotIram - Yes the older version is much better :) aww next time you need foundation I suggest you give it a whirl :) x
ReplyDelete@hannah - I agree :) hahaha yes that is what lychees look like haha too funny! x
I have both and love both, i think maybe the serum wins but only slightly. I will buy both again, they are the best ive ever tried and i hva ereally sensitive/exzema skin.
ReplyDelete@laura - that is so good to hear :) why do you prefer the serum just curious :) x
ReplyDeleteI thought this went up to 56? They don't make it in 54 which was annoying! I did a review of 53 - I like it but it broke me out :( xx
ReplyDelete@stacey - it probably does but I could not find anything darker than 52 maybe all the dark shades sold out quickly? Ah did it, i love the normal one :) x
ReplyDeleteIve been dying to try this since its been out but my maxfactor has always been bought instead! Great review. Think I'll leave it after seeing your review:)

I prefer Healthy mix foundation too :) I almost laughed when I saw you couldn't find a darker shade...we have tons of shades of it from 52-55...I just wish the whole range was lighter (being fair myself):D
ReplyDelete@hollie - thank you :) but do try the original version I promise it is great :) x
ReplyDelete@passing fancy - haha that is so funny, apparently some stores have it up to shade 56? Just none happen to be near me :( I don't even need a really dark shade I think shade 54 would suit me perfectly :) x

I bought this foundation a few weeks ago after seeing a lot of raves about it online. It is a lovely light coverage foundation and smells amazing, it doesn't really cover much at all though so I can only wear it on really good skin days.

I bought this yesterday in 51, as I'm super pale. I haven't tried it yet, but your review has not filled me with hope haha. I loved the original formula too :) x
ReplyDeleteShame it wasn't better than the original!
ReplyDeleteI think the fact its a serum puts me off a lot it just makes me think it would make my skin really greasy looking!

Very nice review, I also love the healthy mix original version, so I will have to try this one too! thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat review, I've been using the original and I really love it!xx
ReplyDeleteIt looks really..liquidy? I know that liquid foundation should be but this seems like overkill.
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem with this foundation that it just seems to slide off my face. I only really use it now if i want the completely "I'm wearing no make-up" look. It does have a nice dewy finish though when it's first put on.
ReplyDeleteHow irritating that you couldn't find a dark enough shade when they're supposed to go up to a 58 according to the website. I actually find that the palest shade, 51, isn't light enough for me. I do love Bourjois foundations, but they seriously need to improve their shade range from the looks of it.
