Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation

Being a massive fan of the original Healthy Mix foundations I just had to test the newer version. I had seen countless reviews of the newer version from various blogs further afield in Europe and really was intrigued to see if it would better the original formula.

I hate to begin a review on a negative note...but I must have tried every Boots and Superdrug in Glasgow to find this in shades darker than shade 52. After much avail I relented and bought the darkest shade I can source which of course is shade 52. I have seen it goes up to shade 53 but I couldn't lay hands on it! I am by no means a dark skinned lady so if you are darker than I, I wish you luck on finding a suitable shade. Shade 52 is around the NC25ish mark, just a little too light for my skintone. One thing I have noticed is that serum version runs cool in tone with a slight grey/green undertone, where as the original Healthy Mix leaned warm with golden undertones. If you are cool toned I recommend the serum, warm tones I think you'll find the original version more suited.

Compared to the first version of Healthy Mix I would deem this much lighter in formula, it is quite a loose liquid and almost watery as you can imagine the coverage is not full. It does feel extremely light on the skin and it buffs and blends in with ease. One pump of the liquid is more than suffice to cover an entire face. I liken it more to a tinted moisturiser opposed to a foundation,
it evens out the skin tone and brightens up the complexion however it will not mask faults such as scarring or any other type of facial marking. The claims are that this foundation will boost radiance and that is exactly what it does, it adds a little hint of colour to the skin and will help dull skin look a little more vibrant. Bourjois state that the finish is semi- matte and I completely agree,  it provides a shine free base without masking or caking the skin.

Like it's elder sister this does have a slight fruity scent, I personally like the scent of the Bourjois foundations but if you have a sensitive nose/skin I do suggest you test this in store but I never notice the scent once it is applied to the face. The bottle has the illusion of glass but rest assure it is plastic so it won't shatter in a handbag etc. It also comes with a handy built in pump function which makes dispensing the foundation a breeze and prevents waste and or spillage of product!

Bourjois claim that this will last up 16hours but in my experience I found that the foundation fell flat of such claim.I applied a light buffing of the Healthy Mix serum at 9am , (without a primer and I did not set with powder as I deem this to be circumstantial and if that is what is required to prolong the wear then the bottle should clearly state so) and by 2pm the foundation had all but gone so 16 hours is a little optimistic. I'm sure it would fair better if a primer and powder was used and it didn't have to battle my oily skin.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation

All in all I have to admit I prefer the original healthy mix, the shade range is more vast and the coverage and lasting power is superior. I wouldn't completely write this foundation off but I don't recommend this is you are a fan of full coverage or if you have medium to dark skin but if you are pale and only require a light foundation it is well worth trying out.
