With countless reviews on the blog-a-sphere shouting it's praise from the rooftops,
I just had to purchase a bottle and see what all the fuss was about!
"They're real! lengthens, curls, volumizes, lifts & separates. Our jet black, long-wearing formula won’t smudge or dry out. A specially designed brush reveals lashes you never knew you had!"
I was a little apprehensive about trying this mascara some reviews were a little too gushing so I approached with caution, I did not think this space age designed silver chrome tube would do all it claims nor did I expect to fall in love with They're Real so hard and so fast.
Out of all the mascaras I own this has to be the chunkiest and bulkiest in terms of packaging.
I'm undecided if I like the sparkling chrome silver tube or not. I can't bring myself to hate it nor do I love it...undecided. What I will say is that the chunky packaging has one bonus, it is easy to grip and the mascara wand handle has a nice weighted feel to it making application straight forward and easy.
The mascara wand is not a natural fibre one (my preference if I'm honest) but a moulded plastic one, not only does it have plastic bristles on all sides of the brush, also the tiny little bristles at the bottom of the brush to use on the tiny eyelashes in the corner of the eyes. I also like to use the smaller bristles for applying the mascara to my bottom eyelashes. The plastic moulded brush has its benefits (excuse the pun) not only does distribute the mascara well but it also combs through the eyelashes and removes/prevents clumping.
They're Real is really well formulated, not too wet not too dry. It coats the eyelashes with ease and is really black, it doesn't flake or smudge ( I tested it out over three, eight hour days). It is safe to use on sensitive eyes and it has no foul smell. So far, so good!
A standard deer caught in the headlights shoot...lovely! |
So does it work? Yes I actually do believe that it lives up to all the claims apart from one, I feel it falls flat of curling the eyelashes but this could be my annoyingly straight eyelashes to blame. It most definitely lengthens and volumises the eyelashes from coat one. I achieved three coats without it clumping which is the maximum I'd ever apply of any mascara. It is easily buildable resulting in the perfect day to night mascara. All in all a winner for me apart from the lack of curl but that can be remedied with the simple use of an eyelash curler. This may just be my holy grail mascara...big words from a little lady!
Have you tried They're Real yet?
Roll on Benefit Hervana, which I have such high hopes about
Benefit They're Real Mascara - 8.5g/£18.50
I have heard sooooo many good things about this mascara - tried to get it at the Clothes Show but it sold out like hot bread!

ReplyDeleteI've been hoping you'd review this for ages! Love love love it. Might just have to break my buying ban with this one! Lx
ReplyDeletei used my friends theyre real mascara and managed to get it in my eye which was incredibly painful and has since put me off it! then again thats just me being an absolute fool!
ReplyDeleteOk.. I really need to try this!! I used bad gal once and wasn't too impressed so even when everyone was praising this up I wasn't too keen to try a benefit mascara again.. but I think I will have to!

@Lauren - Haha sorry for helping you break the ban haha x
@Victoria - Ouch, I do silly things like that too haha! Give it another whirl ;) x
@lowri - I'm with you on the bad gal front, it did nothing at all for me but I promise you They're real is worth the investment :) x
ReplyDeleteI got this for Christmas and I am loving it so far. Also, without sounding creepy, you have pretty colour eyes <3
ReplyDeleteCarissa xx
Vanilla Crush/
@carissa - haha not at all :) thank you! x
ReplyDeleteThe girl who works on the benefit stand next to the one I work on is always raving about this to her college. I was planning on trying it after christmas but I am still trying to use up loads of unopened mascaras.
ReplyDeletexxx
I got this off of buyapowa at such a good price! Its my favourite mascara now, i didn't like the benefit bad gal mascara so didnt expect to like this one at all.
ReplyDeleteI find that although it doesnt add much curl, if you curly your lashes first it really holds the curl well.
xo
i really want to try this mascara, but i have really stubborn lashes so worried about splashing the cash...although all the reviews have been amazing....oooh choices choices haha (sorry for the ramble) xx
ReplyDeleteI keep meaning to try this one, heard mixed reviews, might have to try it soon xxx
ReplyDeletehttp://miss-lv.blogspot.com/
@georgia - It is amazing my lashes do it no justice what so ever :) ah that is my exact same problem, I waited until I finished a mascara before I opened this one...I hate waste! x
ReplyDelete@The Faerie Glen - haha no I love a good ramble, I have really straight lashes that do nothing and I mean nothing haha so I feel your pain. Such a shame you can't buy or obtain a sample x
@Miss LV - I was the same, some reviews just sounded too good to be true but I will say that with this one using is believing :) x
ReplyDeleteHaha I have been on edge of buying this for AGES - i am afraid your good review *may* have pushed me over the edge! Bad Adrienne! haha :o) And yes, roll on Hervana- can't wait to see your review on it :o) x
ReplyDeleteI really want to try this but the price has put me off a bit, not sure if I could cope with losing out on 18.50 if I don't like it. Great review though!

I´ve been seeing this mascara for months and I never got to buy it!.. I will think abou it! thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI found this mascara awful, I had to return it because it gave my eyes an allergic reaction! somehow!
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame that it doesnt live up to all its claims either despite the hefty price tag. I feel this is a miss for me, once again!
Such a popular mascara at the moment, my sis has this but I am undecided! This is a great review, really enjoyed reading it x
ReplyDeleteCan I just say that I love your photography, your products are always so beautifully shot.
ReplyDeleteAs for the mascara, I still haven't tried it yet. I pick it up everytime I'm at a Benefit counter but something always stops (though I've no idea what,) me from buying it despite all the good things I've read about it. I might use some of my Christmas vouchers to finally purchase it though.
@eloise - I know what you mean, I wish more brands would do sample sizes (like mac sized to go) so you can try the product without spending too much, thank you :) x
ReplyDelete@silvia - Let me know if you do pick it up, I love hearing other peoples thoughts :) x
@holly - aww that really sucks, i'm the same with other brands products so I feel your pain x
@temporary secretary - It really is they can't keep up the demand apparently. Does your sister like it? Aww thank you :) x
@cornflakegirl - aww thank you so much what a lovely thing to say :). I know what that feels like, i'm the worst for that I umm and ahh then eventually go back and get it haha! x
I've heard good things about this mascara too. But I didn't care for it when I saw it applied during a friend's makeover. It seemed too heavy and chunky. <O< I'll stick with lashblast~
ReplyDeleteAs much as i would love to try this, i think the price tag is abit high for a mascara! BUT in saying that i have paid more for a mascara i think the most i've paid is £25.. and the mascara was crap from what i remember..
ReplyDeleteThis is why i hardly ever pay any more than £10-£15 for one..
Maybe i'll just wait until Benefit have a little sale or something..
It looks amazing on your eyes though!
Holly,xo
@hannah - It keeps sending your comments to spam which saddens me :( it's such a brill mascara but a tad pricey :( eek rool on hervana! x
ReplyDelete@holly - I know what you mean I often feel some products are a little pricey and cry when I have to part with my money haha...not really but so close to it! x
@Eden - Ah that sucks :( was it an in-store make-over? Yes I love Lash Blast :) x
I work for Benefit and this mascara sells like hotcakes1 We keep selling out! Check out my blog for upcoming benefit products I have heard about! :) www.absolutleybeautiful.blogspot.com xoxo
ReplyDeleteThis looks gorgeous, very tempted to try it! xxx
ReplyDeleteThis mascara gave me spider lashes :( I'm so jealous because it works for everyone but it didn't work for me. I sell this mascara like hot cakes at work.
ReplyDeleteHow funny, I wanted to make a review about this mascara, too. I bought it, because everyone was so crazy about it. And guess what? I don't like it very much :/ Or maybe I'm just to stupid to apply it properly :P
ReplyDeleteRegards, ♥ http://dealystar.blogspot.com/ ♥
I have recently started to use this and i am seriously wowed by it! Not a usual lover of Benefit mascaras but they have done well with this. My bottom lashes look like i have falsies on when i use this. Another lovely visual with the falsies scattered :) xx
ReplyDeleteYes, I´ve tried it and it is my favourite mascara now.
ReplyDeleteI think I must just be applying this mascara wrong, as I don't really think it lengthens my lashes as all, but maybe as someone who normally wears permenant eyelash extensions, I'm expecting too much!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://justmeedee.blogspot.com
I bought this and was so disappointed, didn't do a thing for my eyelashes. I liked the shape of the brush but that was about it! I love the way you take photos x
