Does anyone else reach for Red lip products around this time of the year? I bought Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick Top Tomato for N.Y.E., I intend to wear it with a simple thick lined eye and sculpted cheeks if only deciding what dress to wear to accompany the look was quite as easy!
The shade 050 Top Tomato is a bright true red with slight blue undertones. As you may know the blue tones can help to make teeth appear whiter...score! I view this shade as fairly neutral and one that should suit the vast majority. This product applies with a slight sheen at first but once it has dried down it becomes semi- matte in formula, while drying it does become tacky and sticky but bare with it as once dry the finish is worth it. Really out of character for me it happens to have slight golden shimmer particles. Sometimes I feel that shimmer/glitter particles can cheapen a lipstick/gloss
but I find that the little flecks in this case help to make lips appear fuller. Anyway if you can't sport a little sparkle on New Years Eve when can you?
The packaging of the Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipsticks is basic and plastic. Each shade comes housed in a long clear tube which you can view the shade inside topped off with a plain black lid embossed with Revlon's trade mark font. Compared to the other lip products of the Revlon variety this does fall a little flat, however it protects the product and as it is in a clear casing you can see the shade with ease which is always a bonus in a jam packed make-up bag...cough, cough mine!
I was a little shocked to find how loose and watery the Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick's are! Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick are thin and very much a liquid. The liquid feels extremely light and feel almost undetectable on the lips making them rather comfortable to wear through out the day, without drying out the lips. The only downside as the liquid is so thin and loose it can make application a little tricky which is only hindered by the doe foot applicator. Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick do dry rather quickly and stain so they can prove quite tricky!
I found it difficult to apply the shade evenly and neatly without the help of a lip brush so not a product you can apply in a hurry or without the aide of a mirror!
For a liquid shade Top Tomato is strongly pigmented, one layer produced an opaque finish and lasted throughout the day, around 8 hours as the red stained my lips. I didn't feel the need to top the shade up throughout the day instead every now and then I applied a fine layer of clear gloss just to keep the colour looking fresh and presentable. It is recommendable to line the lips before using these shades as they are fairly difficult to apply that being said they wear well without any flaking, bleeding or feathering.
