I really couldn't pass up the opportunity to snap this lipstick with it's namesake...big fat fluffy marshmallows!
Barry M Marshmallow is a light pink shade with nude tendencies. At one point it was the shade to have and it was on everyone's lips as well as blogs. I passed it up as I like my nude lipsticks to lean slightly brown and as you can clearly see this has no brown tones what so ever! Admittedly Marshmallow is not a shade I would normally gravitate towards yet here we are!
The Barry M lipstick formula can be a little hit and miss, some shades can be rather drying and a layer of lip balm before application is a must yet others have a slightly glossy finish and feel and are not quite as drying. The annoying thing is Barry M lipsticks don't come labelled as to what formula they are, some are definitely more matte or glossy than others and the only way of knowing is to swatch or blind buy in the hope that you have a shade with a decent formulation.
Shade 101 is fairly well pigmented it applies opaque in one swipe had it been any other shade I would say this is a good aspect but with Marshmallow it works against its favour. This is one of the shades that has a semi glossy finish and isn't as drying as the matte shades. But lets state the obvious the shade is horrendous! No sane person of my colouring could wear it just as it is. I look like I have white lips...sexy!!In bullet from the shade looks fairly normal yet one swipe and hello corpse lips. I like to look at the positive aspect of each and every product so I have decided that this could actually work well as a lip eraser, for those with really pigmented lips or as an shade to pale down another lipstick. But as an individual lip shade with no gloss or other shade mixed in with it...HELL NO!
Product Summary
Round Up - A really nude shade that can look ghastly.
Best For - I don't see this working well as a stand alone shade but it will work well mixed with other lipsticks or as an lip eraser.
Pigmentation - (8/10) In fairness the shade may be horrendous but it is well pigmented.
You are right, no one with a warmer complexion could ever pull this off hahaha. It's the same with Gosh Darling. I use that with coral lipsticks to make them more peachy and I LOVE it for that xxx
ReplyDelete@amy - haha it looks ghastly doesn't it haha! I have gosh darling but have never used it. You have got to wonder how these products become must haves or cult shades...baffling! xxx
ReplyDeleteI used to swatch this shade in stores for a laugh but honestly it scares me a little. On another note, I wanted to grab those marshmallows out of the screen! :D x
ReplyDeleteI wont dear to wear that color by me my hair color and complexion it would look like am a Ghost
ReplyDeleteI want to try this just to make other colours lighter. I have the light pink one (100 I think) which I use that way. Also, I love how you pair products with a matching background.
ReplyDelete@sarriah - haha yes it is a bit of a joke shade isn't it! I can vouch that the marshmallows are yummy ;) x
ReplyDelete@maria - haha yes it's not a pleasant shade at all is it x
@christine - Yes I have that one as well another scary shade alone isn't it haha! Aww thank you so much :) x
i bought this shade ages ago and have hardly worn it, it doesnt make you look like youve got foundation lips!
ReplyDeletei tend to put it on then ease the colour by dabbing it with my finger, giving it a sort of light pinkish/nude colour.
but on its own.. good lord no haha! xxx
barry m my fav! i always wear mine with a dab of Body Shops' #69 on top :) or with clear gloss on top- kim kardashian style :)
ReplyDelete@victoria - haha yes it's not very appealing on its own is it haha! x
ReplyDelete@chhimmi - oh I must have a look at the body shop make- up line x
Beautiful pink nude! thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOhh i don't think i'd be able to pull this off on its on, especially since i'm so pale! might have to try it out with some other shades though.

@silvia - thank you :)x
ReplyDelete@zoe - in all honesty I don't know who they had in mind when they created this shade. Yes it works well mixed :) x
Glad you agree! Here's a small post I did a while ago expressing my dislike for Marshmallow, I found it waay too drying on me!
ReplyDeletehttp://iwishforsummer.blogspot.com/2011/11/ew-warning.html
this shade is the perfect nude for my wintery pale skin tone but it sooooo drying . Jeez.
ReplyDeleteI bought this aaaages ago (probably 5 years ago :S) since I loved nude lips. Quickly realised there is a difference between 'nude' and 'tragic' and started using it for mixing with other shades. Awesome mixed with dark plums!
ReplyDeleteI've actually tried this lipstick and it made me look rather ill as i am quite tanned. Its a nice colour if you can pull it off :')

it's a really unusual colour- it would probably make me look really odd, i love barry m though xx
ReplyDeleteThe type of colour that makes look very ill!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you too light of a shade! But i like to mix mine with dark brown nude lip glosses... like viva glam lady gaga 2.... really tones down the color!
ReplyDelete@ensie - I shall read that tonight :) most defientley an odd shade isn't it! x
ReplyDelete@marilou- oh wow really :) you have to show me how you make this work!x
@beautysbadhabit- haha you have summed it up so well! I don't know what possessed me to buy it really!x
@joselin - haha yes I can imagine, it's horrid on most skin tones but the darker you are the worse it gets x
@ellie - I agree Barry M in general is great :) this shade not so much haha!x
@gaelle - haha yes it really does, it looks like I have died or something haha!x
@kay - ooh I might try that :) thanks for the tip :) x
I agree this shade is not nice at all, I would look quite scary with this on I'm guessing!
ReplyDelete@kelly marie - it is horrid on actually worse the lip swatch lets on haha x
ReplyDeleteThis looks like quite a nice nude in the bullet, but I don't know who would be able to pull it off, definitely not me!

ReplyDeletelol! i love how it looks do pretty with the marsh mellows, but on, well frankly it looks shit. good plan to use it as a 'toner-downer' technical terms there ;) xxx
ReplyDeleteI have the shade 100 which is an horribly pale pastel baby pink that gives me almost white lips too. Not sure what to do with it, might put your ideas to the test, thanks!
ReplyDelete@city girls fashion box - haha I should have shown you it as a full face swatch but frankly it would have scared small children and the horses! Yes very technical there ;) x
ReplyDelete@GABY - I have that shade too! I honestly dunno why I buy such shades sometimes haha! You are more than welcome :) x
